WHO stresses cases are being underreported in Liberia

Over 8,000 people in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone have been infected with Ebola, according to new data from the World Health Organization (WHO).

The numbers show there were 2,799 new cases in the last 21 days. Of the 8,011 people infected, 3,857 people have died. “The situation in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone continues to deteriorate, with widespread and persistent transmission of [Ebola],” says the WHO in a statement.

Underreported by a factor of at least 3 which means in reality about 25,000 cases now.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

I heard some IDIOT on a radio show the other day saying

“Oh the media are ignoring the good news! The number of reported cases in West Africa is going down!”

These IDIOTS! People in West Africa are in frenzy, conspiracy theories, witchcraft accusations are running rampant. Of course less people are reporting themselves, they believe the hospitals are killing people.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if more than 25,000 across the region had it, either in the symptomatic or incubation phase. Could it transmit to animals? The Spaniards seem to think so.

Obola has our doors wide open for Mega-Death to hit the homeland

Ebola symptoms sounded to me like runaway scurvy, so I Googled “Vitamin C in treatment of Ebola”. There are definitely people who think extremely high doses of Vitamin C could save lives and prevent infection. See also works of Dr. Fredereck Klenner who pioneered high dosage Vitamin C treatment both orally and intravenously many years ago.

Of course since no drug company will make a mint with this treatment if it works, they will not lift a finger. Will our government or world government give it a decent trial?

Very observant of you. No one else has been talking about this possible way to treat the symptoms. Another FreeRepub writer here said, why are we preparing to test people for high fevers, when Ebola typically only heats the victim up to 100 or 101f, nothing way over 105, as I would expect a fever to be.

That idiot was probably Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the president of Liberia. I was looking at the numbers, wondering what alternate universe she was living in, then I realized she might be mathematically challenged.

Could it transmit to animals?

The Central African "reservoir" of Ebola seems likely to be Kitum Cave in Kenya which is filled with bats.

Can other animals be carriers, too?

Ebola virus antibody prevalence in dogs and human risk.

Allela L, Boury O, Pouillot R, Délicat A, Yaba P, Kumulungui B, Rouquet P, Gonzalez JP, Leroy EM.
Emerging Infectious Diseases Journal (CDC), 2005 Mar;11(3):385-90.

Abstract
During the 2001-2002 outbreak in Gabon, we observed that several dogs were highly exposed to Ebola virus by eating infected dead animals. To examine whether these animals became infected with Ebola virus, we sampled 439 dogs and screened them by Ebola virus-specific immunoglobulin (Ig) G assay, antigen detection, and viral polymerase chain reaction amplification. Seven (8.9%) of 79 samples from the 2 main towns, 15 (15.2%) of 99 samples from Mekambo, and 40 (25.2%) of 159 samples from villages in the Ebola virus-epidemic area had detectable Ebola virus-IgG, compared to only 2 (2%) of 102 samples from France. Among dogs from villages with both infected animal carcasses and human cases, seroprevalence was 31.8%. A significant positive direct association existed between seroprevalence and the distances to the Ebola virus-epidemic area. This study suggests that dogs can be infected by Ebola virus and that the putative infection is asymptomatic.

Note the key word ASYMPTOMATIC. Dogs can carry the disease and not exhibit any symptoms! Now dogs are eating human corpses in Liberia because there aren't enough grave diggers.

More important than the fever is the fact that the body’s Vitamin C stores are completely wiped out and capillaries burst and bleed out before other major infections can hit. It was also noted that the fellow in Texas had a temperature over 1 degree below normal just before symptoms started. Is this a symptom of an illness about to strike? Also what happens to the white blood count just before illness strikes? Two possible early warning symptoms to possibly identify. Meanwhile stock up on vitamin C and take 2 to 4 grams a day if you have been exposed to almost any illness. That is the amount that Vitamin C producing animals produce relative to our body weight. Also divide the dose and take 3 or 4 times a day.

still, when HIV became the rage of the day, we were lectured repeatedly that all of Africa was going to die.....it hasn't....

those people seem to live on the edge of civilization as far as health practices, and they are at high risk for viruses...
