Poll shows Childers gaining on Cochran in Senate race in Mississippi

A new poll shows Democratic challenger Travis Childers gaining on Sen. Thad Cochran less than a month before the Nov. 4 general election.

The New York Times/CBS/YouGov poll taken Sept. 20 through Oct. 1 shows Cochran leading 41 percent to 30 percent. A similar poll taken Aug. 18 through Sept. 2 had Cochran with a 40 percent to 25 percent advantage.

According to the New York Times The Upshot:

The YouGov online surveys are being used to supplement, not replace, the Times’s traditional telephone polls. The Times/CBS News poll uses a different methodology for its political and social surveys; they are conducted using random digit dialing probability sampling. The YouGov data is used for The Upshot election forecasting model in key congressional races and Senate battleground states.

In each state and district, respondents were selected to match the demographics of registered voters. In 66 competitive House districts and the 15 smallest states with Senate elections this year, YouGov interviewed a disproportionate numbers of voters to increase the sample size for these races.

Public polling has shown Cochran stuck below 50 percent since the nasty Republican primary against Tea Party candidate Chris McDaniel, which is still being contested in the Mississippi Supreme Court, Childers spokeswoman Lindsey White wrote in a release about the poll results

It’s totally computerized.

Who knows if the entire ballot is even valid...

So, if (when?) Cochran loses the election, a new primary election could be held ... and *then* McDaniel could run against Cochran in a new general election ... and win. I'd be okay with that. I'd never considered voting for a liberal before. But ... there's always a first I guess.

If Republicans tolerate lawlessness and fraud in our own party, then we are no better than the Democrats. If Thad Cochran is the nominee for that seat, the GOP deserves to lose it. We should not be a party to this fraud.

“but would pull the lever for the Dem...”

That’s insane. Leave that blank and vote for conservatives in state and local elections. Those votes will create a conservative farm team that can eventually replace the scum RINOs in the US Congress.

Conservatives are too myopic, look only at the US Congress and don’t realize that conservative local and state leaders can create political brushfires that Washington DC can’t handle.

Wouldn’t it be a hoot if Cochran in Miss and Graham in SC lost this election?

Too many registered Republicans would have to vote for the Dem in S.C. to have a decent chance to defeat Graham. That is unlikely to be an outcome.

So, our household is planning to vote for the Independent Ravanel, walk away and forget it.

Whatever happened to the Constitution's prescription for National voting on one single day? With all this advance voting, there's too much room for fraud!

If Graham loses in SC, you can bet the Dems have defrauded everyone. (But many a SC conservative would chortle in his sleeve.)

“a new primary could be ordered EVEN AFTER someone WINS the general election.
If that were to happen, a NEW general election also would have to be held. ...”

Absolutely critical. The primary must be redone

“... it would be selfish and childish to not vote for him. Get him next time if he is even alive in 6 years.....”
**************************************************************************************

Cochran will NOT SERVE OUT HIS TERM if reelected. He will resign in 2015 or early 2016, take his MAXED OUT GOVERNMENT PENSION (serving additional time will not increase it from its current 80% of salary) and then move on to the lucrative lobbyist “positions” that he was promised (for him and his sweetheart who he has on government salary) if he would run for reelection. Then the Barbour Mississippi/K Street mafia will name his replacement-—one of their puppets of course.

By the way, ANY incumbent who is only at 40 or 41% in the polls less than one month before the election is in BIG trouble. My assessment is that the ONLY way to SAFELY keep this Republican seat is for the Mississippi Supreme Court to invalidate the fraudulent primary run-off election.

When you don’t think the end justify the means, and your opponent does, you will lose. But, I do you really believe the end doesn’t justify the means? Do you think dropping the atomic bomb on Hiroshima was wrong, or did the end justify the means? Do you think we should never waterboard a muslim terrorist, or does the end justify the means?

I thing the Mississippi Supreme Court will not rule until AFTER the General Election. If the DemocRAT win's, the Mississippi Supreme Court will say that it doesn't matter, because the Republican would have lost either way.
If COCKROACH wins, they'll say it doesn't matter, because the majority of voters chose COCKROACH.

They'll do everything they can to keep the "GOOD 'OLE BOY NETWORK" in power.

I read on Facebook he would have to serve three years and a day or a special election would have to be done. Don’t know of that’s true though

I have been saying a long time that the GOPe is going to blow this election. It’s a fight to the finish between Obama, who everyone is dying to vote against (some literally) and the RINOs, who are doing all in their power to ensure no one wants to vote for them. Not sure how it will come out in the end, but it is going down to the wire. Sad, when this should have been a blow-out of epic proportions.

Whatever happened with McDaniel’s challenge on the primary fiasco? I missed it.

McDaniel’s challenge is at the MS Supreme Court. Arguments have been made and we’re awaiting a decision.
