Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) is leaning heavily on K Street as he tries to save the Senate seat hes held for 18 years.
Roberts has been burning up the phone lines in a frantic bid to keep pace with Greg Orman, the wealthy self-funded independent who is leading the incumbent by 10 points, according to one poll released Sunday.
The old man is raising 100 grand a day. Im serious. Ask any lobbyist of anyone in Washington if theyve gotten a call from Pat Roberts. Hes stepping up, said one Republican source close to the campaign. Its amazing what a little fear will do to somebody, the source added.
A survey of prominent Republican lobbyists revealed that Roberts, the senior Republican on the Senate Agriculture Committee, is reaching far and wide to collect chits hes earned over 34 years in Congress.
I got a call from Pat; I was glad to get it. I think hes a great senator. Ive known Pat a long time. Nobody eats, breathes and lives Kansas like Pat, said former Sen. Tim Hutchinson (R-Ark.), who is now a lobbyist with Greenberg Traurig.
K Street is a valuable resource for Roberts but relying on it carries risks, when many voters have a sour view of Washington.
Orman is worth between $21.5 million and $86 million, according to financial disclosure documents reviewed by The Kansas City Star, which will allow him to easily outspend Roberts in the campaigns final stretch.

Orman the Obama lover is trying to buy a seat.
Ted Cruz is campaigning with Pat Roberts this week.
Too bad he can’t be Senator from Lobby instead of Kansas.
I still think lots of LIVs will just go in and vote straight Dem, then walk away
As long we have corporate federal income taxes, there is nothing wrong with corporate lobbying IMHO.
Hope he and the Turtle lose. Period. I don’t care who takes the Senate as the Dims get it back, BIG time, in 2016 as the map is reversed. Also, ODimwit vetoes anything that passes, there is the filibuster, etc. Any GOP win is Pyrrhic at best.
What I care about is sticking it to the GOPe before it is too late for Conservatism.
That’s what I tell liberals.
Taxes and regulations are the incentive for business to buy politicians. If they really want to end big money lobbying, they need to seriously cut back on taxes and regulations.
The inevitable Orman ads saying that he has been “bought” should be the kiss of death.
I’m sure that Roberts as bought a long time ago.The lobbyists are trying to protect their investment.
Hi! How is everyone today?
Excellent. Me too.
Have a great day!
:-)
McCain has been here supporting Roberts.
But so has Sarah Palin.
Period. I dont care who takes the Senate as the Dims get it back, BIG time, in 2016 as the map is reversed.
You’re kidding yourself. If you cannot take it back in a mid-term election, you’re not going to take it back then. And this is with a president that has an all-time low approval rating.
Blacks, Jews, Muslims, latinos, feminists, gays, lesbians, illegals, unions, welfare recipients, government “workers,” tree huggers, idiots, etc. are a lock for the democrat. Stop kidding yourself. I hope you don’t believe we’re going to take it back in 2016 if we don’t now.
If republicans don’t take the senate now, barack Obama has a blank check to do just as he pleases.
I’ve been repeatedly informed that Kansas is a Liberal State because Sebelius came from there.
And, I’ve been reliably and repeatedly informed that Roberts is totally conservative.
Given what I’ve been told here at Free Republic, maybe Roberts is too conservative for Kansas.
< / GOPe >
K-Street is funding Roberts.
So who will Roberts owe his amnesty vote to?
(I will give you a little hint: It won’t be conservatives)
Because if we re-take the Senate, it would be an ‘impure’ or ‘pyrric’ win, the RATS would still shove us around, etc etc etc
I don’t live in Kansas so I know very little about Pat Roberts... but he has a 96% conservative voting record...What am I missing!!
