That is what identity politics is all about.
Dividing people over irelevant issues while the liberals steal the country blind and use the Constitution for TP.
Has Townhall gone wobbly?
How about we accept that gay marriage will be decided by over-reaching out of control courts and not let the puppet masters use this issue to turn us against each other?
We just gave away the presidency because of a guy who was soft on social issues.
We shouldn’t do that again.
Because we oppose gay marriage and you don’t?
Another liberal speaks, conservatism, and American culture and morality is “irrelevant”.
In other words money is God, let’s loot this baby before it collapses.
God, am I glad I’m out of that rotten party.
You support recognizing gay marriage in the military and the end of marriage, as it becomes anything and nothing and don’t think it worthy of discussion?
After all of human existence, the left just recreates man marriage and family and America, and ends the possibilities for conservatism to exist in the future?
A more apt comparison for Democrats would be the issue of gun control with a small but growing number who oppose gun control laws, a hard-core faction that continues to support increased gun control, and a sizable group in between that seems to wish the issue would disappear.
Abortion is a trickier issue for both parties. Poll after poll shows that a majority of Americans support legal abortion while at the same time supporting limits to legal abortion. Both sides use these polls as evidence that they're winning. The Democrats position of "anytime, anywhere, anyplace for any reason" on abortion is as much a political loser as the opposing position of supporting a "no exceptions" prohibition on abortion is.
So you support Obama’s efforts to have created gay marriage for America.
Well he just gave it to you at the federal level and the military recently.
Here you are telling us that you don’t want opposition to those politics.
To me, gay marriage is not a candidate killer. I believe that we need to worry about terrorism, economy, taxes and repeal of ObamaCare, not if Adam and Steve wants to be married. That said, it should be up to the states, not activist judges or the federal government.
I have opposed gay marriage from the beginning.
I simply recognize that this particular battle has been lost, and that continuing to fight it will cause defeats in other battles that could otherwise be won.
There is some chance of creating a cultural turnaround that would eventually permit the battle to be fought over. But at the present time it is counter-productive to continue to fight.
In the immortal words of Vinegar Joe, “I claim we got a hell of a beating. We got run out of Burma and it is humiliating as hell. I think we ought to find out what caused it, go back and retake it.”
But you will note he didn’t refuse to retreat from Burma when that was appropriate.
For the first time in history, Mike Huckabee is right. The GOP abandons those who support the true definition of marriage, we will stay home, and they’ll never win another election for 100 years. Same with abortion.
I would rather see a smoking crater where this benighted country used to be than submit to the kind of evil insanity that glorifies things like homosexual “marriage.”
You opposed gay marriage from “the beginning” and now you agitate on a conservative forum for a position that supports it.
Since it just barely got created as an issue and Obama just put it into the military, federal employment and immigration and foreign policy, etc, how long was your hard fought opposition to it before you started working on us on behalf of it?
> First, we’re dealing with a tiny minority of disordered people here.
Mentally disordered at that. Big time.
I oppose gay marriage totally. Its advocates went beyond all reason when they weren't satisfied with civil unions to protect their legal rights. But it's not in our hands. The courts have taken it upon themselves to decide. What I do oppose is courts that have so badly distorted our government.
But let's not let it be the social issue the puppet masters trot out every four years to turn us against each other. Let's focus on the invasion (legal and illegal) of the US.
“The institution of MARRIAGE is, of course, at the very foundation of our social organization, and all influences that affect that institution are of vital concern to the people of the whole country.”
— Republican President Theodore Roosevelt, to Congress, January 30, 1905
“The battle against gay marriage has also been lost. IMO, intelligent conservatives should recognize this fact and concentrate on the still-winnable issues of protecting the right of individuals and groups to continue to oppose homosexuality”
So, give up your values to protect your values?
You always were an idiot.
It is in our hands, that is how Obama has simply ordered their greatest victories.
The President runs the Executive branch, and legislation makes law, if you oppose gay marriage and want to prevent polygamy, then rejoin the fight.
