Opponents of Wisconsin's photo ID requirement for voters took their case to the U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday, seeking an emergency halt to the state's implementation of the law before the fast approaching Nov. 4 election.

In their petition, voter ID opponents told the Supreme Court that there's not enough time to properly implement the law in the month remaining in the tight race between GOP Gov. Scott Walker and Democratic challenger Mary Burke.
"Thousands of Wisconsin voters stand to be disenfranchised by this law going into effect so close to the election. Hundreds of absentee ballots have already been cast, and the appeals court's order is fueling voter confusion and election chaos. Eleventh-hour changes in election rules have traditionally been disfavored precisely because the risk of disruption is simply too high," said Dale Ho, director of the Voting Rights Project of the American Civil Liberties Union, which represents the voters suing the state.
On Sept. 12, the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago ruled that the law could be put in place for the election while a lawsuit over the requirement creeps forward, leaving state officials and local election clerks sprinting to put the law in place. Late Wednesday, the 7th Circuit judges who restored voter ID issued an opinion that noted Wisconsin officials could waive the ID requirement for absentee voting.
Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen, who is defending the law in court, said that blocking voter ID anew would sow further confusion and bring about the effect that the law's opponents want to avoid.
"This is surprising and disappointing given the ACLU's previously stated concern over changing the law so close to an election. Apparently, they've abandoned that view and are no longer concerned about voter confusion," Van Hollen said.

They manage to et their food stamps...
I have yet to hear of one case where a leg legimate voter is unable to vote due to a ID law.
I posted to you because you were the original poster of the article.
I’ll go. We’re gonna need more than the three of us. I can handle myself pretty well one on one. Multiple adversaries are a bit different unless I have an equalizer. I have seen with my own eyes how these nut jobs react to an opposite opinion. Personal video cameras would be a plus.
Remember we would have to walk to our cars after any meeting. And yes, expect to be followed, photographed, then possibly harassed.
But. Yeah I’ll go. I’ll be their huckleberry.
I’m in Sun Prairie and I’m sick of this. PM me
Kagan is the ‘Circuit Justice” for the 7th circuit.
I believe she can issue an emergency stay on her own.
Voter ID is a huge obstacle to the voter fraud that the Dem Party depends so heavily upon.
If IDs are required in order to purchase a gun, then they are required in order to vote.
No. I’m just laying the basis for the Supremes to look very idiotic if they rule for the Left on this.
You are exactly right IMO.
Absolutely. You hit the nail square with that comment. That’s what it’s all about.
Especially because Wisconsin is saddled with election day registration at the polls. They'll need photo ID to vote, now, and they'll also need specific pieces of mail addressed to them at their current address in order to register.
required to rent a movie, check out a library book, or collect welfare.
You CANT SO SQUAT in this country without an ID!
Yep,: KAGAN CAN DECIDE THIS ON HER OWN.
“The plea for the Supreme Court to step in now was filed with Justice Elena Kagan, who handles emergency filings from the geographic area that includes Wisconsin. She can act on her own, or share the issue with her colleagues.”

I’m sure she’ll tyrannically block the law.
I’ve lived here 27 years and I’ve seen Voter ID passed either by the legislature, or by a voter referendum, at least 3 times. Each time it has been blocked — either by a change in elected officials, or by some lower court injunction. This law is long overdue.
You can’t even board a plane without photo ID.
The freshly imported Democrat voters from south america disagree.
Frankly, I don’t understand how you/be been blocked. We’ve even got one here in Va despite all the extra ‘Voting Rights Act’ hurdles we had to overcome.
cheating is exactly why they don’t want this.
they watch who’s voted and who hasnt and bring in van loads of people to vote in the names of the dems who haven’t voted. also stuffing ballots.
we’ve seen the chicago vans of people in the milwaukee area. it,s known they do this crap.
But wait Mississippi has a voter ID law and Black votes gave Cochran the victory.
And “black voter turnout exceeded white voter turnout in states with voter id.” This even the often lib polifact.
I thought SCOTUS had already ruled that voter ID laws were constitutional.
At the State level, the Dems argued that PA’s law was discriminatory. They used a 92 year old woman to testify three days in court that she could not get to a place to get an ID.
Well, she got to court three days in a row, didn’t she?
Case should have been dismissed.
When is it open season on these ice holes?
