re: I wonder how long this virus survives outside the body, say on a door knob?

I wonder this as well. Also, lets say everyone self quarantined. How long would it be before the virus died out?

No, that's not likely and it's not airborne. Please define "not airborne"

WE'RE ALL DOOMED!!!

I'm spraying everyone I see with lysol in the face just under the assumption that everyone could have ebola. So far, they're taking it pretty well.

According to Google maps, there are several other apartment complexes in the same area.

Quite probably the children have been in contact or close proximity with children in the other apt complexes.

Please define "not airborne"

An airborne disease is any disease that is caused by pathogens and transmitted through the air. Ebola is not one of them.

People who seek and receive prompt medical attention are unlikely to spread the disease.

What about the people in the Emergency room waiting area? What about the doctors, nurses, techs ?

I heard you if merely say the word "ebola" your chances of catching it increase 500%.

I'm not saying there's no risk, but the risk is much reduced. Particularly in places, like the US, which have sophisticated infrastructure for handling infectious disease outbreaks. Health workers are used to dealing with plenty of diseases far more infectious than Ebola.

“I wonder how long this virus survives outside the body, say on a door knob?”

I read on a thread yesterday that it can survive 5 days on a dry surface.

Want the truth?

Here are some actual facts.

LIVE MAP of VIRUS OUTBREAKS AROUND THE WORLD along with scrolling list of NEW INCIDENTS, and a breakdown by disease with details on each case

Right now, EVD-68 and Chikungunya are affecting more in the US than the Ebola.

I just ran the math and I have a 10,000% chance of contracting ebola, which stinks, because I didn't think anybody could have more than a 100% chance.

So if someone infected with ebola were to cough or sneeze on me, I am safe?

"It is reported that Duncan was vomiting “wildly” outside the apartment complex."

Can this spread through animals? A dog or cat may have licked that vomit....

Its spread by contact with infected people and animals.

The bad news is lots of people will die before survivors accumulate antibodies to resist the virus living in them.

The good news is Ebola is not the worst pandemic we’ve ever faced.
