US Airlines scramble after 100s of passengers had contact with Ebola patient

Hundreds of airline passengers were exposed to the Liberian national before he landed in Dallas, last month, as it is revealed that he took at least three flights to get from Monrovia, Liberia to Texas.

Officials announced that Thomas Eric Duncan flew through Brussels to get to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport - but no airlines operate a direct flight from the European capital to Dallas, meaning he had to take a connecting flight in between.

U.S. officials have refused to release details of his itinerary, including which city he connected through - claiming that none of his fellow passengers are at risk.

Several leading U.S. airlines said on Wednesday they were in close contact with federal health officials about Ebola-related travel.

Airlines for America, the industry trade group, on Wednesday U.S. airlines are in regular contact with the Centers for Disease Control and other government agencies about helping to prevent the spread of Ebola.

This guy is not an agent of the US or any subordinate government.

No one but you suggested he was.

Lets cut to the chase Ms. Rebel.

Three simple yes/no questions which do not require a wordy response.

1. Do you support individuals who believe they might very well have been infected/exposed to an extremely deadly disease to travel and intentionally endanger many others, possibly an entire continent?

2. Should hundreds or maybe thousands of others who were knowingly exposed travel to the U.S. the same way Duncan did?

3. Is it not one the few actual responsibilities of the U.S. government to protect our borders, homeland and Americans from harm?

Yup. Conservatives are haters anyway with their war on women and such.

Very selfish person to do that and go near 5 children of his family, in my view. What the heck, being around Ebola patients and coming to this country. No, I don’t understand his reasoning.

Slightly different mean times and longer than 21 days incubation. Suggested 25 days.

The Liberian man, IIRC was exposed on the 16th, left on the 19-20th, and symptom sick on the 24. 8 days of incubation. It’s anywhere from 2 to 21 (25?) and the mean being anywhere from 5-13 days.

Just what has our President done to protect this Country and it’s people. I BIG NOTHING! and I include the non fabulous Mrs O. blah

Not just being around. He was lifting and carrying ebola patients. What is it with these people? Are they morons?

It's not just the five children. It's the children in four elementary schools who are now exposed. Some Texas parent is going to shoot him. If he lives.

Ya mean this woman?

This is the body of Sonny Boy Williams. Duncan took Sonny Boy via taxi to a hospital with Mr. Duncan’s help on Sept 15. She was convulsing nearly dead and seven months pregnant according to reports. Several radio reports mentioned Duncan actually had to carry this person and physically assist her, as she was near dead..

Is there anyone here who believes Duncan did not know he had VERY likely been exposed and infected before he ever set foot on that flight?

Dr. Oz said today he thinks this is a test run.

I want to know who Duncan is. How did he pay the airfare? What does he do for a living in Liberia? How does he live in Liberia? Does he live in squalor?

GROUND THOSE AIRCRAFT. NOW....

Too late. I read on another thread, that the plane which took Duncan from Dulles to DFW, has already made something like twenty additional flights.

Ebola in far away villages is one thing. In a major American city is another. This is bad!

” No one but you suggested he was.”

No, YOU defended your nasty name-calling of that first response by insinuating with a circular argument that he is. All because government (or airlines, or whatever) LET him in.

“Lets cut to the chase Ms. Rebel.”

Cut the condescending taunting speech, Internet big-mouth.

1. Do you support individuals who believe they might very well have been infected/exposed to an extremely deadly disease to travel and intentionally endanger many others, possibly an entire continent?

Intentionally? No.

You’re baiting and switching. Tell me this guy was intentionally endangering people, like a Moslem. If he wanted that he should’ve spat on them. And it still has nothing to do with what would truly be the question - customs intervention. THAT is the issue, not whether someone incidentally got in. You can argue “morals”, but that is not really the issue here. He is not a kamikaze.

2. Should hundreds or maybe thousands of others who were knowingly exposed travel to the U.S. the same way Duncan did?

No (I already mentioned this in a reply). There should be checks on this, somehow. As mentioned in #1.

3. Is it not one the few actual responsibilities of the U.S. government to protect our borders, homeland and Americans from harm?

Yes. Same question basically as the 2nd, and already answered many replies ago.

He doesn’t live in Liberia. Apparently, he is a resident here with family. Went there for a funeral, of all things.

Actually he did live in Liberia. He was from Ghana and his wife and kids live here.

He worked for a subsidiary of FedEx and quit his job on Sep 4th. Didn’t fly out then though, stuck around another couple of weeks for some reason, maybe waiting on a visa?

Interestingly enough the tix were purchased through a subsidiary of UPS over there.

I guess this goes to show none of these articles (as always) can be totally trusted.

The truth hasn’t had time to congeal. Once again all kinds of “facts” out there.

I should heed my usual advice and simmer down until time reveals the whole truth.

Lemme make this really simple for you Miss Rebel. See if you can answer these with simple yes or no.

1. Do you support individuals who believe they might very well have been infected/exposed to an extremely deadly disease, to travel and endanger many others, possibly an entire continent?

2. Do you not blame those individuals for any wrong doing, who believe they very well might have been infected/exposed to an extremely deadly contagious disease that travel and endanger many others, possibly an entire continent?

These are not complex questions Ms. Reb.

Just something to consider:

Reporting on Ebola: First rule is you don’t touch anyone

Before I left, I had asked an expert how much virus is in each droplet of body fluid. At time of death, when the viral load is highest, he told me, it’s probably 500,000 to 1 million particles. And how much virus would it take to become infected? Somewhere between one and 10 particles, he said.
