Some Kennesaw State University students have committed to wearing head scarves for 24 hours in a show of support for Muslim women who wear a hijab, or head covering.
Caitlin Syfrett, a senior at KSU majoring in anthropology, said she wants to see if she gets any questioning looks or mean-spirited glances from people while she wears a head scarf, even though shes not Muslim.
Im wearing it as a sign of solidarity because there are women who do this every day, and theyre judged, Syfrett said Tuesday, when the 24-hour period began. I want to see how prevalent the misconceptions are.
Syfrett said she hopes to talk to others about the prejudice she sees Muslim women endure in the United States and other countries for exhibiting their religion. She said she wants to break stereotypes.
Tuesdays event, The Many Faces of the Hijab, is part of KSUs yearlong study of the Arabian Peninsula.

Why not wear a big sign that says “I’m a 2nd-class citizen and someone else’s property” and see if you get any strange looks.
Seriously. I had to double check the source half way through. John Siemmons couldn’t have done a better job if he’d tried.
I hope nobody drops a dime on her to the *actual* medieval savages in the area that she routinely "blasphemes" the Profit Moe Hammered (Bacon Grease Be Unto Him).
There was a time when Christian women covered their heads, but the feminists said it was sexist. I swear people are just brain dead.
Look at me! Look at me!!! thats what this is all about...nothing more
Is that a word?
At least it’s a careful scientific study, based on Caitlin’s objective perception of “mean spirited glances”, and not the sophomoric spectacle of a petit-leftist middle class college girl.
What???
This idiot never heard of a babushka?
Exactly. Caitlin seem to crave attention, and since she doesn’t live in Saudi Arabia, Iran or other places where a heavy price is paid by oppressed women who don’t want to wear the hijab, she can play her dress-up game. The idiocy of some people in this country knows no bounds.
Of course it's a word,sweetheart...how do you think I got where I am today!
There's still a slim chance that a few years in the real world will teach you to differentiate between your ass and your elbow.
However, the operative word is 'slim' .. good luck with it.

Ukrainian Baptists.
They never did that for Mennonite/Amish or any other conservative Christian group whose women cover their heads (1Cor 11).
But as has been pointed out, Islam trumps gender and ancestry, so there you have it.
Jordanian Christians.
And their parents pay big money to send their children to this school.
Banjo pickin'.
Gee whiz, why not ask the women if THEY WANT to wear the scarf!!!!
