Iran set to execute woman accused of killing attempted rapist

An Iranian woman sentenced to death for killing a man who tried to rape her told her mother goodbye and prepared to die, even as the Islamic republic’s president was meeting with world leaders at the United Nations.

Rayhaneh Jabbari, 26, is set to be executed Tuesday, according to reports from Iran. On Monday, her mother, Shole Paravan, recounted on her Facebook page an emotional farewell call her daughter made when a sympathetic guard loaned her a cellphone before she was taken to Rajaiy Shahr Prison to be hanged. […]

In April, a court postponed Jabbari’s execution in the face of heavy international outcry, including an international petition with nearly 200,000 signatures. But the grim news that the sentence will soon be carried out came as Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, trying to put a moderate face on the regime.

Supporters of Rouhani hoped his election last year would usher in a more tolerant era than the one of his predecessor, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, particularly regarding human rights. But advocacy groups say the number of executions and violations have increased. …

Islam is a “religion” of savages. I watched that idiot O’Reilly defending Islam again tonight with his stupid “It’s the governments, not the people, the Muslim people are good people” crap.

Muslim war on women—very real, and despicable

American “war on women”— big fake ruse to get useful idiots to vote for the democrat party.

The way I tend to see things is, the only people that make excuses for the enemy, foreign or domestic, are enemy, foreign or domestic.

Having pretty much sh*t-canned Israel, this is the nature of Obama’s new allies in the region.

Supporters of Rouhani hoped his election last year would usher in a more tolerant era than the one of his predecessor,

When "Supporters" (whoever they're) of Rouhani understand that neither Rouhani has any "real power" in the Islamic Republic of Iran, nor did Ahmadinejad, they will stop voting altogether there.

Agreed 100% - if the moslem people were good at heart - they would rise up and stop this...but they don’t!

If the Iraq Army/Military really cared about “their” nation - they would have risen up to the cause and defended everyone that ISIS posed a threat to - but they didn’t - they ran like cowards!

Islam as a whole is evil. There is a class system woven into its fabric - it does not care for those that are different in any manner - its about control - subjugation - violence.

There is no difference between moderate or extremist. They both hold the same goal of total domination.

With the Internet - the world sees Islam for what it is now...there is no hiding it...then again, Islam is making no effort to hide it!

If O’Reilly did that, then he’s just as savage as they are. Useful idiot if you will.

There is NOTHING good about a culture that displays this type of “justice”.

I've seen a video of hangings in Iran. They get a huge construction crane, attach the rope around your neck to it and...lift.Not at all quick. In fact the video I saw, which featured *three* hangees, showed that one of the three thrashed wildly for at least 30 seconds before becoming still.

That’s not relevant either way, since both Rouhani and Ahmadinejad believe and espouse the same things as the Ayatollah. If they stop voting, they’ll be made to vote, just like with the last “election” in North Korea where “100 percent” of the populace “voted” for Kim Jong-un.

Correct, voting doesn't count, even if they were made to vote, because it's a sham.

My point was that the ultimate authority for policy, foreign policy too, does not rest with the President (Rouhani, Ahmadinejad or any other president) in the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI). It rests with the Supreme leader (Khamenei, for now) as per the Velayat-e faghih constitution of IRI.

On your other point, and in tandem with my original quote from article: Supporters of Rouhani hoped his election last year would usher in a more tolerant era than the one of his predecessor, must say, surprisingly or not, some mullahs even within the regime can be more "tolerant", as Khatami was, remember him? But, only can push very limited 'ideas' through, due to Velayat-e Faghih Constitution. Mostly, they can not action their "tolerant" policies.

Yet, every time before the election, we get people, even some Iranian expats urging people to vote! Both the Iranian people and others need to finally understand that IRI only has a semblance of democracy.

Khatami tolerant? Of what? The guy who reaffirmed the fatwa against Salman Rushdie? and who condemned the 2009 election protesters as fighting against Allah? and told Benedict XVI to “fall on his knees” before Islam? He was and is no different from the rest of any politicians there or any of the ayatollahs.

Probably I’m not explaining this correctly, and you’re not understanding what I’m saying. As I said, any president within the in IRI needs to toe the line with the Velayat-e Faghih Constitution. Please read it thoroughly. Otherwise, they can be killed, and am sure Khatami, Rouhani or any other aren’t in favor of being killed. That’s regardless of their specific personal views i.e. what they agree or disagree on so far as the entirety of the regime is concerned.

All presidential candidates are selected by the Council of Guardians, which means any such candidate will be a rigorously-dogmatic Twelver especially in personal views. No “liberals” or “moderates” allowed into the process. What you are saying has no relevance to the way things are done in Iran. When Khatami spoke those things I mentioned, it was from his heart.
