More Americans moved to Texas in recent years than any other state: A net gain of more than 387,000 in the latest Census for 2013. And Austin was the fastest growing major city.
Jobs is the No. 1 reason for population moves, with affordable housing a close second.
"It take two things to draw people inland in big numbers: jobs and housing affordability," said Nela Richardson, chief economist for the real estate broker Redfin.
Texas and other heartland states have two advantages that translate into affordable housing: Plenty of cheap land around cities and easy regulations that enable developers to build quickly.
Nine of the top 10 fastest growing U.S. metro areas last year were ones where homes were more affordable than the U.S. average, according to Redfin. Many were in Texas, Oklahoma, Utah and other heartland states. Five Texas cities -- Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Dallas and Fort Worth -- were among the top 20 fastest growing large metro areas.
Some smaller Texas metro areas grew even faster. In oil-rich Odessa, the population grew 3.3% and nearby Midland recorded a 3% gain.

This map shows the main migration problem: California.
My nephew moved from NE Ohio down to Amarillo.
Former Marine and a Conservative, says it’s the best move he made.
I’d look at that map again if I were you...upper RH corner if you need a hint.
I was looking at post 11.
I was born and raised in Nebraska, lived in many states, and am a Texan by choice, (4 yrs) by disposition, and by the grace of God. To paraphrase Steinbeck; Texas is a state of mind.
Native Texans are my favorite people in the whole world. I have been welcomed and feel at home.
Well, there are some buttheads, I could live without, still can’t complain.
And Rick Perry is out there putting out the welcome mat. It’s only a matter of time before the entire USA is Californicated beyond repair.
Stay out!
We just got the plague! It’s an epidemic!
Soon our power stations will crash and no AC for anyone!
Just go to Oklahoma or Kansas or something instead
RE: Its only a matter of time before the entire USA is Californicated beyond repair.
And by that time, California shall have become Mexified.
Welcome home. As Lyle Lovett sang ... “That’s right, you’re not from Texas. But Texas loves you anyway.”
The pie chart confirms Kalifornos are a plague, in Texas and every other state they move into.
Some are, and some are good, patriotic conservatives.
The percentage may be “high”, but many of the counties reflected in the map are red counties...meaning a good portion of that 23% are conservatives or at a minimum, republicans.
We’re not all liberals out here...and about the only thing that prevents me from moving to TX is the “welcome” I expect because of the CA tags on our vehicles...all the “stay home parasites” type Texans can keep it for all I care...their crap must smell like roses or something.
Look at the counties in the states with outflow and go from there...that will give you a better image of what is more likely happening. The NE, Miami-Dade, NW, etc. are well-known liberal enclaves...even Clark County NV is shown.
What CA has suffered from the other 49 states in the Union is bound to happen to others...CA is the “benefactor” of having a vibrant economy and prospects some 40 years ago...liberalism bled it dry.
Texas’ own success may well precede its doom...
Thanks, best move I’ve ever made.
It should be that if you move to Texas from New York, or Jersey, or are a Masshole you can’t vote in Texas fot 10 years
RE: The pie chart confirms Kalifornos are a plague, in Texas and every other state they move into.
These Kalifornos are moving away from Mexifornia.
Mexico is re-conquering California without firing a shot this time.
Old Bumper Sticker
“I dont care how you did it up north...”
A friend of my son moved from MA to TX and said he would probably last 2 years.
That was 13 years ago.
.
I think all libs should read up on Texas before considering relocation.
The summers are hot!! Hot...I tell ya. Like Fallujah in the summer. There isn’t a lot of snow in the winter but when the obligatory ice storm hits the place shuts down. I know they think they can drive on it...but rethink, rethink. The hurricanes in the south are bad...but boy, oh boy, when one hits Dallas every few years it flattens the place and it has to be rebuilt.
And bugs!! I have seen water bugs the size of cocker spaniels in my kitchen. And snakes! The copperrattlermocasin is indigenous to the area. They are bad news. I was bit by one myself once. No hospital FOR MILES! If Rooster hadn’t shown up just in the nick of time and carried me to McAlister I’d be a goner.
We all have six-shooters on our hips and shoot outs occur on the streets at least twice daily. While we ride to work on our horses dodging the tumbleweeds.
I would go on...but it would make me sound like I don’t love living here...which I absolutely do.:)
I get what you are saying. Makes sense. My cousin is leaving CA after 30 years this October. Taking his family & 30 jobs with him.
That’s alright, this “Kaliforno” has no plans to “infect” Texas.
