The person they tortured to death was somebody named Earle Obermeyer - they wrapped him in plastic and suffocated him, but after roasting him over a bed of charcoal first. I couldn’t find out anything about Obermeyer, whether he was a dealer, a customer, or whatever.
That said, there’s no reason these people shouldn’t be looking at the death penalty.
Google turns up a few Earle Obermeyers so it might not be possible to positively identify which one. I’d too want to know why was he chosen for the torture and murder. Some vendetta, or he just happened to be there when they were in the mood for random violence? Maybe Holder thinks this is just gangsters punishing other gangsters so no big deal?
