Brian Howard, 36, of Naperville has been charged with one felony count of Destruction of Aircraft or Aircraft Facilities after he allegedly set a fire in the basement of an Aurora FAA facility, cut the feeds to the radar and damaged the communications system, forcing a ground stop at Chicago's O'Hare and Midway international airports, the FBI says.
Investigators say Howard managed to do extensive damage to the host computer, as well as the lines to radar in the facility. The Air Route Control Center monitors high altitude aircraft before landing in Chicago or flying through the area.

Ah, so St. Swisher could hooked him up, had he not gotten caught and then exited.”

Maybe he’s just crying out for help???
Everything this season is suspect ... that madam secretery (or whatever it’s called), how to get away with murder ... I’m waiting for the others ... scandal looks like it might be suspicious also.
The saddest thing is the FAA is ancient that they only have one high radar system for the entire midwest. lets dissolve the FAA and let private companies run our Air traffic redundantly. Hell I can watch all the flight in the world on the internet. Why cant they have more than one radar station.
They all flew at 4000 feet for three states.
He was angry he was being transferred to Hawaii.
Hawaii must be the armpit of Satan or something.
How much you want to bet hes Black—and a covert to Islam? Maybe a picture of him in a turban on his facebook page? Just not good at cutting off his own head.
Re: “Yet, no planes crashed, no one died. “
This was not a coordinated attack of several cities at the same time.
He should be charged with a separate count for every missed or cancelled flight.
Leaving aside the odious comparison to Mr. Schwartz, Mr. Howard caused severe economic damage, in the millions of dollars, in addition to the inconvenience he caused thousands of people. But I guess that’s alright because coloradan wasn’t inconvenienced, and it as all other people’s money.
I don’t think you got my point. I think Howard’s crimes are far greater than Swartz’s, and was comparing that he got a single felony, while Swartz got 13. I would be happy to charge Howard with thousands of felonies, one for each passenger whose flight was canceled by his actions, and another for each individual unit he disabled or destroyed, and furthermore attempted murder charges for each of the people then in the building he set alight. And I would seek damages from his personal wealth to all those people. For Pete’s sake, tampering with a smoke detector on a flight is a federal felony, wouldn’t you think that cutting cables to ATC radar while planes are in the air is a wee bit worse? Sheesh.
True enough.
By the way I was inconvenienced, I think that was the same day I was supposed to fly through DFW, but it was canceled there because of thunderstorms - and the fact of all the extra flights displaced because Chicago was shut down.
