Brian Howard, 36, of Naperville has been charged with one felony count of Destruction of Aircraft or Aircraft Facilities after he allegedly set a fire in the basement of an Aurora FAA facility, cut the feeds to the radar and damaged the communications system, forcing a ground stop at Chicago's O'Hare and Midway international airports, the FBI says.
Investigators say Howard managed to do extensive damage to the host computer, as well as the lines to radar in the facility. The Air Route Control Center monitors high altitude aircraft before landing in Chicago or flying through the area.

This can be compared with the 13 felony counts Aaron Swartz faced for downloading scientific papers paid for by US taxpayers, with the intent to distribute them for free. No lives put in jeopardy, neither in aircraft nor from a fire on the ground, no physical damage to anything, no lives seriously inconvenienced by flight disruptions and no personal gain. Sure, Lady Justice is blind.

“Howard was in the process of actively slicing his throat with another knife,” the federal affidavit says. The injured man, who had other self-inflicted wounds on his arms, reportedly told the first-responders to “leave me alone.”
Authorities say a message appeared on a Facebook page with Howard’s name around the time of a fire.
“Take a hard look in the mirror, I have. And this is why I am about to take out ZAU (the control center) and my life,” the Facebook message said, according to an FBI special agent’s comments in an affidavit. “April, Pop, luv you guys and I am sorry. Leaving you with a big mess. Do your best to move on quickly from me please. Feel like I give a [expletive] for the first time in a long time again … but not for too long (haha!) So I’m gonna smoke this blunt and move on, take care everyone.”
Still not much word about either his sympathies or motives.
Is it certain that no shout of “Allahu Akbar!” was heard at the time?
Because we know who would have been well served by such an incident.
I was looking for a picture of the miscreant but I suspect that told me what I was trying to find out.
He did extensive damage to the computer, the FAA is rushing to replace vacuum tubes as we speak.
I think everyone is missing the point due to the Muslim awareness.
I would like to know exactly ‘why’ he sabotaged the RADAR system.

I am retired FAA . The system is very vulnerable to actslikethis. They can never understand how weak the system is.
