U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts put a signature to documents associated with the mortgage on a Virginia residence that identify the Fairfax County home as principal residence of the three-term incumbent Republican.
The re-election campaign of the Kansan has been awash in controversy about whether his ownership of a duplex in Dodge City, which is rented out, and his payment of about $300 a month for a room in a Dodge City supporter's home satisfied legal requirements for public office.
On Wednesday, records surfaced that Roberts signed a Deed of Trust in 1997 and 2003 for property owned in Alexandria, Va., with his wife, Franki, that contained text about a principal residence.
The documents, which include a series of covenants, required Roberts to attest the couple within 60 days of executing the document shall continue to occupy the property as borrowers principal residence for at least one year after the date of occupancy.
Greg Orman's campaign had no comment about Roberts residential issue or details of the mortgage records.
Roberts primary opponent, tea party candidate Milton Wolf, made the centerpiece of his campaign the question of Roberts residency. State elections officials rejected a request to remove Roberts from Kansas ballots, but political consequences of the situation continue to emerge.
USA Today published a story concluding that U.S. Senate records showed Roberts made use of official funds to spend 97 days in Kansas between July 2011 and August 2013. During that period, U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., spent official funds to log about 475 days in Kansas.
Being the landlord of a Kansan does not make you a Kansan, said Wolf, who lost the Republican primary Aug. 5 to Roberts but collected 41 percent of the vote.
Roberts attracted interest in the topic when asked about the frequency of his trips to Kansas. In a gaffe that received great attention he said in an interview, Every time I get an opponent I mean, every time I get a chance Im home."
Your home is where your heart is, and my heart is in Kansas, Roberts said.
Shhh! You’re blowing Hillary’s! cover!
Carpet Bagger. These people sneak in like roaches.

Each State develops their residency laws.
Just another symptom of the problem.
thanks for admitting that you prefer the Sebelius vision of Kansas....the Obama Care version.
Enjoy your death panel. You voted for it in honor of your own self righteousness.
I will check the constitution. I believe the constitution does require one to be a resident of the state from which you are elected.
What gets me about this though, is that all congressmen and senators live in Washington, DC area for most of the year, while Congress is in session. Many own homes there. I guess I’m confused why it becomes an issue, in this case, and in Landrieu’s case, but not an issue in other campaigns.
If up to me, they wouldn’t spend so much time in Washington as Congress wouldn’t be in session most of the year, but that’s a separate topic......
Seriously? Who cares!
Not many I know here in Kansas cares about this as much as the liberals are trying to antagonize with this. Yeah, he has his flaws, much like most politicians but he is still a solid conservative vote. There are much worse things that could come to pass like allowing Harry Reid to remain leader of the Senate. I want no part of allowing that to happen, first and foremost.
CGato
sheesh...at least “Pineapple Bob” always had a house in Russell and went their often
As far as I know, my representative is still sleeping in his office. One of his issues is the fact that they don’t spend enough time in their home states and districts.
When he was elected in 2010 the very first piece of legislation he sponsored was a requirement that elected officials spend at least 20 days per month at home.
Nevermind that just vote Republican!!!
At various times Orman has been registered as a Democrat and a Republican. He has been unaffiliated with a party since 2010.
After a debate in 2014 he stated, “Ive tried both parties; and, like most Kansans, Ive been disappointed.”[7]
2008 U.S. Senate race
Orman was a Democratic candidate in Kansas’s 2008 United States Senate election, but dropped out before the primary.
You want Reid to stay in charge !
just joined and peddling the Dem option..
Oh that right let the phony Dem aka the Obama delegate in 2008 and 2012.
We have very low grade Dem trolls here now.
He is Pres Jarrett hand pick option.
You know, if you wouldn’t make statements like those you just made to me, people wouldn’t know how ignorant and shallow you really are.
I guess Im confused why it becomes an issue, in this case, and in Landrieus case, but not an issue in other campaigns.

It started two years ago when it cost Richard Lugar (R-IN) his Senate seat. It will continue every election cycle from here on out; count on it.
Well, Roberts is a lot better than most of the other Republican senators. He really is.
Not many I know here in Kansas cares about this as much as the liberals are trying to antagonize with this

It’s not the Liberals, it’s the Conservatives. It started in the Primary with Dr. Wolf. I dunno.... Just seems to me that people would not want a Senator who is only in the State 97 days out of 700 (Do the math.) and is so freakin’ out of touch he can’t find his old, wrinkled butt with both hands. They had an opportunity to send someone to Washington who was NOT Roberts who would not have voted for Harry Reid for Majority Leader and chose not too That tells me that a whole lot of low-information voters just vote for the name they’ve heard before.
Uh...... what does any of that have to do with the residency topic we’re discussing?
