(CNN) One moment, a man reaches into his vehicle after a South Carolina trooper asked for his drivers license.
Seconds later, the trooper shoots him, and the man asks why. Days later, prosecutors arent satisfied with the answer.
Authorities released dash-camera video Wednesday showing what they say is Sean Groubert, then a South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper, shooting Levar Jones, who was unarmed, in the parking lot of a gas station just outside Columbia on September 4.
Jones, 35, survived the shooting. But Groubert, who was fired because of the incident last week, has been charged with aggravated assault and battery, a felony that could get him up to 20 years in prison if convicted, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division said Wednesday.

Thank you PO Groubert for giving the race baiters ammo for the next 100 years, freakin’ wad. Unreal. The guy is standing on private property out of his car and this moron shoots him.
This guy that got shot...$$$$$$ from the city.
Serving and protecting!
Now serving...KA CHING!
I saw it on TV news....disgusting. This is a case where support of the victim should be unanimous.
Why isn’t he being charged with attempted murder?
No. Groubert has given nothing to the race-baiters, thanks to the dash cam that proved his actions to be assault with a deadly weapon under color of law.
The race-baiters always want to have a dubious case (cf. T. Martin and M. Brown) in which, because the evidence of what happened is sufficiently murky at least in the immediate aftermath, a media circus can be made to vilify the white person (civilian or LEO), thereby subverting the course of an impartial investigation.
In fact, they prefer cases where the murky evidence might well exonerate the white person so that they can use the eventual exonoration as “proof” that the system is stacked against blacks, allowing for another round of agitprop in the wake of the dismissal of charges or acquittal.
Yep. Tells him to get his license then shoots him when he tries to comply. No excuse. I wonder what he claims he stopped for in the first place.
ditto
I support our police...but the bad ones can be dangerous and extremely expensive for the city .
After watching the video I can understand why the cop freaked
HOWEVER
He should not have fired! He had every reason to draw his gun but none what-so-ever to fire.
Bad shoot.
Experienced cops know when someone is reaching for a gun.
But to shoot someone without justifiable cause makes you look bad and reflects on the city.
Most people cooperate during a traffic stop. There is no need to assault them.
seatbelt - which the medical courier on his way home from work claims to have unbuckled as he was pulling in the gas station
Seatbelt violation.
I just saw the video on the local news.
I agree, it was something to make you alarmed. It does make one wonder if he is going for a gun but no reason whatsoever to shoot.
Driving without a seatbelt is dangerous. In some jurisdictions it can get you shot.
Itchy trigger finger.
Jail the cop for assault with deadly weapon under color of law. Take his pension and sell his home to pay part of the judgement for the guy he shot. Pay the rest of the settlement by reducing the police department budget by 20%.
