The widow of Nelson Mandela punctured the self-congratulatory mood of the UN summit on Tuesday, saying world leaders had failed to rise to the challenge of climate change.
:snip:
The Green Climate Fund was founded in 2010 to help poor countries cope with climate change. UN officials and developing country diplomats have said repeatedly it will not be possible to reach a climate deal in Paris, without a significant fund for those countries which did the least to cause climate change but will bear the brunt.
South Korea and Switzerland went on to pledge $100m each, Denmark pledged $70m, Norway pledged $33m and Mexico said it would give $10m.
But the total of $2.3bn pledged for the Green Climate Fund so far fell short of the $10bn to $15bn that UN officials and developing country said was needed to show rich countries were committed to acting on climate change.

You are wrong. a lot of the money won’t go to”poor countries”...
it will go to rich politicians in poor countries.
Who doesn’t believe in global warming? Half the US used to be covered by a glacier.
Graça Machel, the widow of Nelson Mandela, speaks at the UN climate summit in New York
Nelson had the good sense to dump Winnie a long time ago.
“So, other than Atlantis, has any other island nation or continent slipped beneath the waves?”
Well, back in 2003, the eco-fascists told us that the South Pacific island of Tuvalu would slip under the waves in 5 to 10 years. Helen Clark, the completely nutty prime minister of New Zealand, suggested that that country take in the Tuvalu natives as global warming refugees.
The natives wanted free beachfront homes so that they could continue their native tradition of sitting on their fat buns on the beach and swilling beer. The beer would be paid for by giving them a generous monthly stipend. Tuvalu, BTW, still stands in the Pacific Ocean, bravely waging a battle against rising sea levels that don’t exist.
There are a number of serious problems that the world faces today that require urgent action. “Climate change” is not one of them.
That was not this woman. That was Winnie Mandela, his first wife.
Absolutely. See the defunct attempt at the Carbon exchange. Trading ‘credits’, a non-tangible product. See Oil for Food at the U.N. level. Plenty of examples of thieves in high places feathering their own nests on the backs of the people once again.
Just because that's exactly what it looks like doesn't mean it is...but in this case yes, it is exactly that.
Really sad and disappointing that she has either fallen for this scam or decided to become part of it.
You know when your a stupid communist? When it takes four months to figure out your husband is dead. “ He just don’t talk to me any more”
The summary here is:
“Show me the money”
“Gibbs me the money”
Can we get some comments on this “issue” from Winnie Mandela?
Winnie was the life of the party. Such a card!!!!! I liked Winnie better.
Summed up nicely.
Yes. What is the carbon footprint of a burning tire - human included?
The “necklace” was not limited to Winnie.
I’m sure burning tires isn’t good for the ecology.
My comment was not directed at Winnie. The “necklace” is part of the rich tapestry of South African culture.
This pretty much confirms that AGW/Climate Change is nothing more than a socialist/communist redistribution scheme to take money from poor people in rich countries and give it to rich people in poor countries.
Hey, graca, STFU, you commie idiot.
