Was the guy posing as a threat to anybody?
Was he mock aiming the gun at anybody?
Or is everybody who has a gun fairly deemed a threat by virtue of carrying one?
....”is everybody who has a gun fairly deemed a threat by virtue of carrying one?”....
Most people who carry a gun wouldn’t be ‘swinging it around’ in a wal-mart, or any other place for that matter, as this guy was...he was a threat for just doing that.
The poor guy went to what seemed to be a hidden corner of the store to play with the gun, he stood in one spot hefting it and testing it, and never pointed it at anyone, or wanted anyone to see him doing it.
When the kids came up to the isle he put it against his opposite side leg to keep it low key or hidden.
The caller lied when he said he pointed it at the kids.

Just if they're messing around with it like they're loading it, then waving it all around. I vote the police are not guilty.
Action beats reaction every single time. If he is holding a gun, you have already lost the gun fight.
That is the norm. If a cop sees a ump in your clothes he can shoot you and then say he thought it was a gun. That is far as it will go. He is Justified.
how do you 'mock aim a gun"?
you don't walk around with an unholstered gun or a rifle in a crowded store - duh... and you don't wave a gun around in a crowded store -
The idiot was swinging the gun up and down. I do agree that he deserves a Darwin Award for his stupidity.
Ummm, swinging a gun around in a store IS a threat. Was the guy retarded? Mental problems? Think back on your own life Jonty30 - have you EVER been in a store with some guy swinging a gun around? EVER? Me either...
Swinging guns around in public is not how sane people act. You know that... Police have to take into account. If they didn’t there would be a lot more murders in the country.
