When people ask me how I feel about the latest events in Iraq, I tell them I feel sad. All these people both Americans and Iraqis who have died since 2003 died for nothing. And as the Islamic State insurgency unfolds, and as Iraq tries once again for a peaceful political transition, Im mourning not just those who have died over the past decade, but for a country that I havent been able to recognize for a very long time.
I grew up in Baghdad in a middle-class family. My father served in the Iraqi Air Force and often traveled internationally; my mother was a math teacher; my siblings all attended college. I graduated from the most prestigious high school in Baghdad before getting my degree at pharmacy school.

Truer words were never spoken.
Bush’s fault.
Yeah but ISIS didn’t exist under Bush’s rule either. So maybe the ISIS problem lies elsewhere.
Nor would it exist if Obama had not pulled us out of Iraq ad armed ISIS.
They existed fine under Hussein in alliance.
CNN covered up torture and abuse under Saddam Hussein to maintain their Baghdad Bureau.
The Bush administration was already prosecuting those involved in the Abu Ghraib case when the MSM tried to use the news of it to oust Bush from office (in 2004's election). All it did was serve as agitprop to flood terrorists (much like the Islamic State recruits) into Iraq.
No kidding, people are taking the surrender of Iraq by Obama after we won it, and using it to defend their position of maintaining Saddam Hussein in power against Bush and the world.
Since the left wing media likes their fake argument, we know what the public will come to believe.
The media silently tolerated Hussein’s tactics. The press was decidedly anti-US war effort and served as enemy propagandists. No better than Mildred Gillars or Lord Haw Haw (both of whom at least wore the uniforms of the enemy in WWII).
Dear saif
Oh just shut up. For years your people sipped sweet mint tea and muttered darkly about how the US backed Saddam as a plot against Arabs
Now you’re whining about the lost opportunity your manly fighters lost when thousands of our brave troops died to remove him and give your society a clean shot at building a modern democracy.
Just. Shut up. You. Ungrateful. Sob.
Most sincerely
Not sure about that “truth”. Assad still rules Syria where ISIS readily incubates.
It’s like saying the “Islamic State” wouldn’t exist under Assad’s rule.
Would be interesting to wargame out the Iraq invasion never happening.
How would Obama destabilizing Syria, Egypt and Libya have affected the ME with Hussein still in power? Assuming, of course, that he wouldn’t have also pranced around with Saddam too.
And Saddam was going to live forever right. What happened in the Balkans after Tito would have been replicated ten fold by the pent up anger of Shiite and Sunni and Kurd.
Who did Saddam allow to oppose him during his reign? Sometimes a strongman is what a country needs, especially one with over five different religious sects. I served my first tour in Korea when Park Chung-Hee was their strongman and met him more than once. He was what was needed in that time period but would not work there now.
There, fixed it. Goodell is the new fall guy for everything.
Agreed.
This is also what a friend of ours, a general in the Iraqi military says.
Sorry, no more support for the Rockefeller clan using the US military for their personal war games and business ventures.
Afghanistan still makes 90% of the world’s heroin.
Every US President reports to those new world order people; Clinton, the Bush family, Obama.
New name, same job description.
Sign the orders your elite handlers tell you to.
I get the argument about the stabilizing dictator. I wasn’t in favor of the removal of Mubarak nor Qaddafi for that matter. But Iraq had serious potential that was squandered by a narcissistic charlatan. The West could have easily prevented ISIS penetration into Iraq.
Saddam had two rapist sons to inherit the seat of power.
Meanwhile Obama took it upon himself to kill Momar Gaddafi. It was a war crime and unprovoked war, plain and simple. Gaddafi was a POW who was paraded about, tortured, abused, then publicly murdered. Sec. of State Hillary Clinton cackled “WE came, WE saw, HE DIED!!!”.
No one speaks out about that “regime change” that empowered Islamic imperialists. Gaddafi kept them down too, supposedly.
These anti-american arm chair quarterbacks can go screw with their revisionist “boosh hatred”.
I doubt Saddam would still be running the show if we had not intervened.
Uday and Kusay..(sp) would likely be in charge..
So how does that change your predictions..??
