Notice a theme? In the hard-fought North Carolina Senate race, just about every ad from a Democratic outside organization repeats the same talking point that the GOP candidate, Thom Tillis, as speaker of the North Carolina House, presided over a $500 million cut in education funding. Tilliss opponent, Sen. Kay Hagan (D), also raised it in a political debate.
In June, we first looked at this issue, when yet another outside group, Emilys List, ran a similar attack ad. The Emilys List ad, as well as two of these new ads, pair the $500 million allegation with the bogus claim that Tillis handed out tax cuts for private jets and yachts.
Now that the budget season has ended in North Carolina, its time for an update. The Facts
As we have said before, the jet and yacht claim is taken out of context. A major tax law negotiated under Tilliss watch in 2013 eliminated a number of loopholes to help finance a tax cut, including a $20,000 cap on deducting property taxes and home mortgage interest that was aimed at the owners of large homes and estates. But lawmakers, under pressure from the states boat building industry, did not eliminate a $1,500 cap on the sales tax for boats and planes.

No, can’t go to bed just yet. I’m watching Pittsburgh kick North Carolina’s ass on Sunday night football. Just not a good night, all the way around, for you Carolina folks tonight. Maybe you should go to bed.
Actually I mis-informed on my about page.
I’m off Tower Rd. in Wakefield.
What’s the score?
Can you name the three branches of government johnny?
____________________________________________________________
Oh please. Is that the best you can come up with? I’m a Certified Teacher; certified in 7 subjects. One of the subjects I teach is Government (Civics). Don’t insult my intelligence. And my name is not Johnny...... Redneck.
The score with 11:00 min. to go is Pittsburgh 30 / Carolina 13.
Certified Eh?
Department of Agriculture #1 select fish?
I’m moving on to another thread. Goodnight.
So your the Civics teacher that has 2/3 of our population clueless about government.
Do they write essays on the Battle of New Orleans and why it was so important to our present governance?
I’ll bet it is more how John Kerry is escaping taxes by having his sloop moored here in Newport.
I got one troll on the hook and another to go ahead and admit guilt by association. Not a bad night. North Carolina will elect Tillis. Good Evening to all.
The Nazi DemocRATS are doing the same thing here in Arizona. Blaming increased class sizes on “cuts in education” by Republicans. Not one mention of the Commie ‘RATS flooding our schools with “unaccompanied” illegal alien invaders. Of course, the GOP morons aren’t going to bring that up either.
Education cuts - big theme this year from ‘rats - Republican Governor Corbett in Pennsylvania is being hit by his opponent with charges that he cut one billion out of state education funds even though he’s produced ads showing he’s actually funded a couple hundred million more than his predecessor, even with the extra money from Obama’s stimulus funds the previous administration put into education - numbers don’t matter to ‘rats on the make.....
You never know when to shut up do you? At least I have a career. What’s your gig? Are you on Welfare or Disability like most redneck hicks in North Carolina? You, and many others like you on this website, just go freakin’ bananas when you can’t participate in an intelligent forum. You need to get a job, get a life and quit sitting in front of the computer showing how ignorant you are on Free Republic and how perverted you are on your kiddie porn sites you go to on the internet.
I will NOT reply to any more of your stupid comments you address to me. I will not dignify them with a response. Have a good night.
How many times to you tell your class that?
Your lucky you still have an account here.
I was a Greg Brannon supporter, until Tillis won the Primary.
I will be voting for Tillis.
That said: #1) He not as good on the Constitution as Mr. Brannon.
#2) Mr. Tillis should be targeting pro-life voters, heck pretty much the whole state is pro-life out of a few pockets in Wake, possibly Durham, and a few of the college towns like Chapel Hill. Instead he buys into the lefts narrative of a “war on women” talking about contraceptives (which is important to virtually 0% of voters here in N.C.). I’d rather he point out Mrs. Hagan’s vote for Obamacare (in which WE taxpayers are on the hook to pay for OTHERS abortions), 2ndly She supported legislation in the Senate which would have allowed for and supported Late Term Abortions, she’s far outside the mainstream on this, and I don’t know why Tillis doesn’t push this since even many African Americans and Latinos in our state are pro-life not to mention the very Catholic pockets in Mecklenberg, Wake, and even the coastal areas.. I don’t get it!
He is pro-life but does not amplify it.
As far as Obamacare goes, he attacks the heck out of it.
I asked for a sane response and you gave one. I appreciate that. Pulled a few trolls in which I expected.
I was a Brannon supporter myself but apparently the time isn’t right.
The Latino community is 80% behind Hagan. Watch Univision @ 6 tomorrow. It will show you where they are.
Fire back at them. The news gives you everything you need.
2/3rds of this nation cannot tell me the three branches of government. This falls on our teachers.
Heck, I have all 50 state capitals ingrained in my head because of 6 and 7th grades. This is a good thing.
Kids today cannot even tell me what their own Capital is.
I’m not shelling out more money for absolutely nothing.
They only need to bring up the fact that our children are ignorant.
Typical low information response.
Well that’s my point Tillis SHOULD highlight it, and make this part of his agenda to point out how out of the mainstream that Kay Hagan is!~ That’s what he should do, but I think he’s more into listening to the same consultant class that was tied to Elizabeth Dole, Mitt Romney;..the Raleigh/D.C. crowd that doesn’t really know OUR state! God Bless.
