The swarm of attack ads claiming $500 million in North Carolina education cuts
Glenn Kessler ^

Notice a theme? In the hard-fought North Carolina Senate race, just about every ad from a Democratic outside organization repeats the same talking point —that the GOP candidate, Thom Tillis, as speaker of the North Carolina House, presided over a $500 million cut in education funding. Tillis’s opponent, Sen. Kay Hagan (D), also raised it in a political debate.

In June, we first looked at this issue, when yet another outside group, Emily’s List, ran a similar attack ad. The Emily’s List ad, as well as two of these new ads, pair the $500 million allegation with the bogus claim that Tillis handed out tax cuts for “private jets and yachts.”

Now that the budget season has ended in North Carolina, it’s time for an update. The Facts

As we have said before, the jet and yacht claim is taken out of context. A major tax law negotiated under Tillis’s watch in 2013 eliminated a number of loopholes to help finance a tax cut, including a $20,000 cap on deducting property taxes and home mortgage interest that was aimed at the owners of large homes and estates. But lawmakers, under pressure from the state’s boat building industry, did not eliminate a $1,500 cap on the sales tax for boats and planes.

I am asking once again for everybody attacking Tillis to give a solid reason.

Obviously if you are a Hagan bot and the bus comes early no response is required.

And they talk about republicans not having a message.

Tell me cripplecreek...... what is Tillis’ message? I don’t want to know what the Democrats and the Teachers’ Unions say is his message. Tell me what Thom Tillis says is his message? Is his message that Kay Hagan is a rubber stamps for Obama? Well, if it is, and that is the best he can do, it sure as hell isn’t working. She’s leading in all the latest polls. Tell me what is his message? I’m waiting with bated breath.

Well, for starters he isn’t a fascist. For seconds he doesn’t support fascists.

Don’t eat that fish with baited breath, there might be a hook on it.

This guy has been excellent for North Carolina.

Perhaps you could outline all of the ways he's been excellent for North Carolina? Just in case people don't know or are having trouble remembering them all.

You might have to do this for him since he and the RNC seem reluctant to remind voters of these important reasons to support his campaign and vote for him in November.

I know - but he is a fool to let this be an issue in the Senate race. He’s not running for NC House Speaker now.

I am not anti Till is but I can give you 2 words that killed my support for him: 1) Karl 2) Rove. You see Messrs. Rove, McConnell, Boehner, McCain, Graham, previously Cantor and now McCarthy all hate loathe and despise anything or anyone conservative starting with Ronald Reagan and continuing to Ted Cruz. I refuse to vote for another establishment Republican. I refuse to hold my nose anymore. I am 63. Maybe, I will be able to vote for a true conservative before I die. But I kinda f-ing doubt it.

He is the North Carolina Speaker of the House.

Is it that hard to look up the direction of NC in the last two years?

I guess it is just to easy to slam somebody you don’t even know.

The post you responded to says nothing about Kay Hagan. So you are accusing a fellow freeper of something not said.

I guess any internal debate trying to make the GOP better just outrages you.

See how that works?

You have made my point.

If Karl Rove ever comes out for support of Sarah Palin your just gonna have to shoot yourself I guess.

Stop being so sophomoric.

Apparently you did not notice that I spelled “bated” the correct way: b-a-t-e-d. It’s not b-a-i-t-e-d. So, you attempt at making a funny imploded.
