I am responding to the complaint that we are “pushing our morality” on people by opposing drugs, I am simply trying to determine when it is okay to “push morality” on people in their minds.

Ahh, I see. I missed the context. Obviously, the law has been informed and guided by our culture’s sense of morality. If they are arguing against that proposition, they are building on sand. Now, I’m not certain that the law can build morality, at least not to the extent that morality can build the law. That’s why my outlook isn’t very rosy.

"Is it okay if the parents decide to sleep with the kids too?"

That's harming a non-consenting child... That's RAPE. Are you taking a page from the 0-Tard playbook, and using straw men? Surely you can do better than that.

VERY disappointing for a FReeper....

I am trying to find out when it is okay with libertarians to “push morality” onto others.

I mean somewhere along the way morality will be imposed by someone. That is what LAW is.

That's the statist definition. The alternate is that the law is to prevent or punish violation of an individual's rights by others.

I don’t like sweets, eat a paleo diet, all homegrown and free range. I like my work, living here in BFE and hiking in the woods-dull is okay with me.

"I am trying to find out when it is okay with libertarians to “push morality” onto others."

That doesn't matter, really. If you mistook me for a Libertarian, you are a bit mistaken, I'm a hard ass when it comes to crimes when a person truly harms another. I also believe in STRONG border controls and immigration policies. I also believe we should have a ROBUST national defense, but NOT be the world's 'policeman'. I also believe the current prohibition against drugs is as harmful ans wrong-headed as the alcohol prohibition of nearly 100 years ago....

But I do wonder how many of the drug warriors here have ever even tried it.

I'm not a warrior but I have tried it and personally don't like it.

With that being said, how many individual lives have been destroyed by marijuana usage as compared to alcohol consumption? To be fair, I also use that argument when smoking comes up for discussion........

the bottom line is, since the vast majority of our country enjoys a beer or two or a glass of wine, ain't none of them folks going to jump on the bandwagon to ban alcohol............

You want to purify our country of destructive substances then start with alcohol..........till then, leave everyone else alone.....

I don’t think marijuana is less harmful than alcohol and I don’t think drug addiction is any better than alcoholism.

There are about 18,000 deaths each year due to excessive alcohol use. There are no deaths, I repeat, no deaths due to excessive marijuana use.

From the CDC...

"Drinking too much can harm your health. Excessive alcohol use led to approximately 88,000 deaths ... in the United States from 2006 – 2010"

http://www.cdc.gov/alcohol/fact-sheets/alcohol-use.htm

Driving while high is just as dangerous as driving while drunk. The only difference is, there is no way to quantify the degree of impairment caused by marijuana at the roadside or even in an autopsy. Physiologically, it is known that marijuana contains four fold more tars than does tobacco smoke. It hasn't garnered nearly the amount of scientific research as has tobacco however so it's really difficult to say what specific long term health effects it causes, harmful or beneficial at this time.

It's also difficult to compare it to alcohol as alcohol is far more widely used. If marijuana became as widely abused as alcohol, we would likely see an increased incidence of health problems associated with that abuse be they direct as in cancer or indirectly, as in motor vehicle accidents.

Regardless of any of that, however you look at it, it is all drug addiction and can not be considered a healthy behavior in terms of biological health or social health.

And, again, the last thing our welfare society needs is more irresponsibility, more indolence, and more mental impairment. This is the kind of thing that destroys nations and, as I am a part of this nation and have an interest in not seeing it destroyed, I am not going to condone drug addiction. ever. for any reason.

How about giving it to kids? I guess you would want us to “push our morals” when that occurs?

What could go wrong when Robert Downey Jr.'s Dad had him smoking pot at age 8?

------------------------------------------------

From the Internet: The Paleo Diet is an effort to eat like we used to back in the day…WAY back in the day. If a caveman couldn't eat it, neither can you. This means anything we could hunt or find – meats, fish, nuts, leafy greens, regional veggies, and seeds.

===========================================

Since I love popcorn, with butter and salt, I don't think I'd make a good "paleo" eater.

However, PALEO includes honey so that would be OKAY with me.

Also, I had oyster stew for dinner. Yummy. A paleo-eater wouldn't have had that either. Nope, I am NON-paleo.

Besides, most of the paleo-people didn't live much past their teens and twenties. Life was rough and tough back then. OLD was 40. Now 40 is merely approaching middle age.

Dull works for me too!
Every day I walk out where the hang gliders fly [They run and JUMP off a hundred foot cliff--Yikes!] and folks take their dogs for a nice long walk. It's out at the Pacific coast. Doggies and the ocean, two of God's greatest creations!
I love it.

Total baloney as is the rest of your post. MJ isn't the scourge you believe or the effects would be noticeable in society. The fact is, millions are using the weed recreationally with no destruction of society and as medicine it has many verifiable benefits.

No destruction of society huh? right. I have been listening to the rants of drug addicts and alcoholics for as long as I can remember and I have ample personal experience with the matter. Don’t even try to lecture me on on the benefits of drug addiction. Do you want your doctor being a pot head? your lawyer? give me a break. talking to drug addicts and their apologists makes me want to puke. same old BS.

oh and you’re actually suggesting that it’s safe to drive after smoking a bowl of ultra potent weed huh? Give me a break. That is an utterly ridiculous assertion that nobody but another drug addict would believe.

I agree, there are no benefits to drug addiction -- just as there are no benefits to alcoholism. But why is it ok to tolerate the one but not the other? Especially when the other, cannabis, is far less ravaging than alcohol.

I eat popcorn onw and then, but really don’t like salt, either-it wasn’t on the table when I grew up, and it isn’t now.

I live in the Texas hill country-I was born and raised in southwest Texas, but both are ranch country, and people live the same way. I eat like we did on the ranch-lots of fresh meat and veggies, and fresh fruit in season-sweets were made with honey and raw brown sugar, and we ate real yummy butter and homemade yogurt. Living into the 90’s is common in my family, as long as you keep working. The paleo diet works for me-my job involves physical work, so protein is a necessity-I’m 5’9” and 110 lbs, same as I was at 17...

I barter my homegrown herbs and veggies for butter and eggs from a neighbor here, and goat cheese-but no yogurt-I have to buy that...
