Anthony Johnson was a black slave owner who was so bad that his slave ran away and begged the neighbor to take him.
Johnson then went to the courts and basically got slavery legal in VA.
Funny how this is never discussed in history , or black history month , or even by the NAACP
Anthony Johnson was a former indentured servant who prospered sufficiently after he completed his term of indenture that he acquired indentured servants himself. He was apparently a cruel master, as his servants ran away before their term was completed, one of whom was John Casor. Johnson went to court, suing for the lost labor he was owed due to Casor running away. Johnson won, the result of which was making Casor a servant for life. This marked the beginning of chattel slavery in the British North American colonies. So, yes, the first owner of a black African slave in North America was black himself.
