House Republicans are quietly discussing a proposal that could fundamentally alter the way future speakers of the House are chosen, according to multiple GOP sources, with the objective of avoiding a repeat of John Boehner's embarrassing reelection vote in 2013.

Write your congressman.
This is the kind of power play that can be stopped by constituents.

The so-called leadership is tone deaf. Maybe they really don’t want to win in November.

And here I’ve been laboring under the misconception that this was a democratic process.

Possible Rules Change Could Punish Boehner Dissidents Of course, the public vote on election day, could always go against GOP-E RINOs.

This happened to my Congressman already. David Schweikert was removed from the Finance committee after acting too Conservative. He has his Bachelors in Finance and his MBA, too. Boehner has been punishing ‘rebel Conservatives’ anyway. I guess he just wants to make it official.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.
And then they kill you.

Of course, or half the pretend FReepers will say “well then you are voting for Dems if you a) don’t vote or b) don’t support (fill in the blank RINO).
My favorite is “you can’t win by losing”. Just how do we “WIN” putting in RINO’s that act, talk and spend and vote like liberal Dems? I prefer the party of Reagan, not of Bob Michel, Dole, Bush’s, Christie, etc.

This kind of sham will only serve to depress a portion of conservative
voters in the coming mid-term elections.

Even if the first proposal is adopted, Republicans would still be allowed to vote for anyone in those closed-door internal elections, during which members choose their leadership officials for the next Congress. But once a majority of the conference has voted for their candidate as speaker, that decision will be final. When the House holds its chamber-wide vote for speaker on the first day of the new Congress, all Republicans will be expected to support the party's nominee. Then why even have a vote if the outcome is expected to be 100% for the nominee? Venezuela style elections.

Not that this is directly related but the “conservative” GOP candidate for Maine’s 2nd district (Bruce Poliquin) is bringing in Boehner for a fund raiser. That’s worse than LePage (who I like) bringing in Christie. Twice no less.
