Seems to me Saddam up to that point only picked on other Muslims. Par for the course in that part of the world. Why was it our business what he did to other Muslims?
Hussien’s intent was to take Kuwait and much more. This would threaten the oil supply to western nations. That would have impacted us.
We can’t simply stick our head in the sand and ignore the rest of the world.
Are you really comfortable with allowing a guy like that to cause the deaths of millions of people, without stepping in to stop it?
I’m not. Allowing evil to take place when you can stop it is evil.
Granted, lesser acts of evil of course you’re not going to become engaged. At some point the line is crossed and I think you need to.
Let me add one point.
If the U. S. refuses to be the agent of change in instances like this, sooner or later another nation will start to take over resolving these sorts of situations.
Will you honestly agree that it is better if the U. N., Russia, or China become that agent?
Do you really want these or another entity to replace us as the world’s conscience?
We either engage, or someone else eventually will. And this will mean they had to gear up to do things like this, and have become a greater threat to us in the process.
