The Department of Homeland Security's inspector general just issued a highly critical report finding that DHS lacks sufficient supplies and preparedness to handle a domestic pandemic. Thirteen years ago, soon after the 9/11 attacks, letters laced with anthrax killed five Americans. Just as 9/11 revealed the country's vulnerabilities to terror attacks, the anthrax episode exposed the need for better routine surveillance and strategic stockpiling of key countermeasures against viral outbreaks or bioterror attacks. We're still far less prepared than we should be, and far more vulnerable than we're admitting.

DHS has better things to do like feel up and harass air travelers.

Could Ebola survive long enough to be sent through
the mail?
Scary if so.

Not to worry, K. Our unionized militarized police forces will be on the front line attacking the Ebola virus, courtesy of Homeland Security.

Could Ebola survive long enough to be sent through the mail? Scary if so. That would be unlikely. There are other modes of spread that would be simple, even with limited specialized skills and knowledge.

Its spread by direct contact. As a hemorrhagic fever virus - its nasty if you catch it. As in guaranteed fatality.
I plan to get inoculated once a vaccine is available.

Oh my! The pros are not ready. I heard they had their Mountain House food, ammo, and bunkers already to go. Oh I see it's us on the outside that are not ready as the bunker door closes. You paid for the soup but no soup for you!

Once the blood arrives, use it to taint 1,000 hypodermic needles.
And give them away for free to drug users in ten major cities.

The dead need no protection.
DHS is a super expensive useless bureaucratic condom.

tet68:" Could Ebola survive long enough to be sent through the mail?"
Hypothetically ,.. yes.
Someone who has Ebola sheds viruses when showing outward physical symptoms
If the victim touches a hard surface, these virus sheds are called 'fomites'
Fomites can remain alive for up to 5 days, depending on temperature and humidity.
So yes, technically it is possible , but unlikely .
Or , just don't pick up your mail for 5 days , in which case you need a larger mailbox due to the build up of outstanding bills.
