At Cleburne County Schools, where lunch participation dropped by 29 percent under Michelle O’s rules, Maria Gilbert said her children will no longer eat school food. Her 11th grader says it’s “nasty” and has opted to bring microwave food from home, at least until the school removed the appliance from the cafeteria. Gilbert said she’s often forced to find a quick meal for her famished kids after school, AnnisonStar.com reports.

Aren’t they required to have a doctors prescription before they can bring in food from elsewhere?

I know some schools require it, it was discussed here on FR.

In one Vermont school district, officials devised a plan to “repurpose” their lunch waste as feed for about 3,000 hogs at a local pig farm.

But the problem was, the pigs wouldn't touch it.

I recall barbeque barf on a bun at my cafeteria but there were days when huge chocolate chip cookies and ice cream made up for it.

Just to be clear, Moochele SUPPORTS all this nonsense, but it’s federal bureaucrats in the US Dep’t. of Education who have made these rules and regulations, not the presidents wife. They are just hiding behind her (very ample) skirts.

These bureaucrats work for us, we’re paying their equally ample salaries and pensions.

Why everyone seems to get wrapped-up in the Moochele angle instead of calling out the real culprits is beyond me. But it’s a beautiful deflection and head-fake by the federal Education nazis, who will be there forcing crap like this onto local school boards under the threat of extortion long after Moochele is gone.

When I was a kid in the 60’s, school lunches were good home-style cooked food, made right there in the cafeteria’s kitchen. Kids didn’t waste anything and some even wanted seconds, especially football and basketball players..................

They should be made to eat what they prescribe for our kids for a couple of months. Then see what they say...................

Has no one ever heard of a SANDWICH in a brown paper bag???? These people seem incredibly helpless!!! Add a handful of chips in a baggie, a bunch of cookies and and apple or orange and you have what we call “lunch”. I’m getting a little tired of hearing about how students are suffering from Moochelle’s lunch edicts.

Yes, everybody has, but the schools have BANNED BRING FROM HOME LUNCHES! Your child has to have a doctor’s note for special food needs, otherwise you have to eat the school crap or nothing at all............

I am old enough to know that our high school didn’t have a cafeteria. We all carried out lunches & bought a pint of milt for a nickel from a dispensing machine.

I went to a one room school for elementary grades, & carried out lunches there, also.

IMO, the cost of building & running a cafeteria is a total waste of taxpayer money.

Our school got food from the old Commodity Program to make great meals. That was when the government was useful..........

Mine too. We had real lunch ladies that cooked all day for us. We used to get assigned 1 week per year to work in the cafeteria. Everyone loved it because for that week we got free lunches and got to eat whatever we wanted. We ate a lot of stuff with the government cheese in it. Yum! Best cheese ever.
