I don’t think hard-left kleptocracies are that big a draw for corporations.
Look at e.g. Burger King.

Scotland was independent at one time. They can do it again.
Don't count on it. They make the Brits look almost conservative when it comes to social policy.

More importantly than Scotland’s future economic and political future - is the question: Will the Royal family continue to wear the tartan kilts? Sad to think that little Prince George might not be able to show off the fabulous Royal legs i.e. Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Princes William and Harry. Ah well...toss tradition for...

“Pretty good writing, though.”
“Scotland will be Pakistan with exposed knees.”
He can draw a mental picture, for sure.

Yes, the national mood of Scotland is a little too leftist, but that hasn't stopped some Scandinavian countries and some other European sites from being decent if overtaxed places to live.
The Scots are not as inept as most current third-world residents. And they will soon find out that Das Kapital is better to wipe their a#$es with than as an economic blueprint.

He did misspell Dewar’s and Chanel. Old age is creeping in.

"Hes such a heavy-handed humorist. Never ever found this guy funny" He was a lot funnier when he wrote for National Lampoon, and I was 12.

He’s funny but not always accurate. And for many years he was one of the few “journalists” out there defending the U.S. and skewering Democrats...and some Pubbies as well.

Appreciating P.J.’s style may be a gender and generational dividing line. He was the editor in chief during the classic days of the National Lampoon (”Buy This Magazine or We’ll Shoot This Dog”) so for those of us who were in our long haired drug and alcohol fueled wastrel years back then, only to graduate to opened eyed Conservative “Reptile Republican” maturity, he’s one of us. Besides, he’s also one of very few writers who honestly describes the turd world s@#$holes of the world just as they really are and calls out the pretentious latte sipping elites who’ve never had to do their business squatting over a 4” wide steaming hole in the ground or seen children die fly infested and belly distended, yet find native innocence so much superior to crude American convenience. But you are certainly entitled to not appreciating P.J.’s bludgeon style.

A funny line but one where O'Rourke is off. Scotland will be nothing like Pakistan. I'll admit to never having been to Pakistan, but I've been to Scotland several times. I have in-laws who live there.

I come from a long line of professional comedy writers so I like my humor short, short and shorter. I’ve always thought his style was heavy. Leaden, in fact. Yes, we all have different tastes in humor.

Well if they go independent bye bye nanny state. Scotland is one of the most socialist countries. Cradle to grave. Maybe it will be good for them to deal with an austerity package.

I love it! I'm surprised that the Brits don't insist on having a simultaneous vote on whether to "divest" Scotland regardless of how the independence vote goes.
On a serious note, I could be totally and naively wrong, but I have a strong sense that a fractured world leaves both the powerful and the weak (by reason of craven indolence) with much fewer opportunities for exploitation.

This coming Thursday the Scots will vote on whether to make Scotland an independent nation. And I hope they do because it will be a disaster.Me too!
