One of the most successful aspects of the Yes campaign has been its ability to hide the economic, social and historical consequences of a vote for independence.
The choice for the people of Scotland has been framed by Scottish National Party (SNP) leader Alex Salmond as an opportunity to take revenge on an out of touch Westminster elite, a narrative which for several reasons has struck of chord with a significant portion of Scottish voters.
The centrepiece of the Yes campaigns message is a three and a half minute video from Kirsty, who we are told will be born just in time to live in two different futures, one within the United Kingdom and one without.
The key question repeated throughout the video is: Will I grow up in a Scotland where...? followed by a string of doomsday scenarios where people have to pay for tuition fees, and weapons of mass destruction are tolerated.

Scotland, please note.
If Bangladesh can be an independent country, why not Scotland?
Don't forget Haiti.
Friedrich Hayek:
We shall not rebuild civilization on the large scale. It is no accident that on the whole there was more beauty and decency to be found in the life of the small peoples, and that among the large ones there was more happiness and content in proportion as they had avoided the deadly blight of centralization. Least of all shall we preserve democracy or foster its growth if all the power and most of the important decisions rest with an organization far too big for the common man to survey or comprehend. Nowhere has democracy ever worked well without a great measure of local self-government, providing a school of political training for the people at large as much as for their future leaders. It is only where responsibility can be learned and practiced in affairs with which most people are familiar, where it is the awareness of ones neighbor rather than some theoretical knowledge of the needs of other people which guides action, that the ordinary man can take a real part in public affairs because they concern the world he knows. Where the scope of the political measures becomes so large that the necessary knowledge is almost exclusively possessed by the bureaucracy, the creative impulses of the private person must flag. I believe that here the experience of the small countries like Holland and Switzerland contains much from which even the most fortunate larger countries like Great Britain can learn. We shall all be the gainers if we can create a world fit for small states to live in. (Emphasis added).
It would be different if Scotland was voting to crawl out from under the yoke of excessive taxation and failed socialism...but from what I can tell it will only get worse if they become independent. Very sad!
Heh!
Yup. And if the world thinks the US southern border is a mess, just wait and see what happens at the Scottish borders when they are not longer part of the UK.
I would suggest looking at Italy and that would be enough to scare the s^%$ out of anyone.
Maybe independence for Scotland at some point is a great idea... NOW couldn’t be a worse time for them to go it alone.
They have that choice, they are having a referendum, but the right to self-determination is a right, not an obligation.
Don’t forget Pakistan!
Bangladesh and Pakistan were Muzzie nations carved out of India with major population transfers.
With the USA now dramatically increasing oil and gas production and Europe now looking at increased Norwegian oil and gas production, an independence for Scotland may now look a lot less attractive.
Please educate me here. What does him being pro-Israel have to do with Scottish Independence?
The left took over their education system as it did ours. Train the youth to destroy the founding and the untested and unknowing youth vote will destroy them just as the youth vote. Is destroying us. I would be ashamed to be a teacher today.
Indeed, the Scots are the most socialist part of the UK.
Scottish independence could be a boon for England economically, once everything settles.
The best comparison is probably the breakup of Czechoslovakia. The Czechs got stronger and the Slovaks got weaker.
How can independence EVER be worse?
The fact that all those in power are against independence, and are scared to death that this might work is reason enough to vote yes.
Send a message to the pieces of garbage in power, vote for independence.
The best argument Her Majesty can make for staying together is free tuition?
I think it has to do with the fact that taxes from London support the welfare state in Scotland. Remove that and the Scottish politicians will have a great excuse to triple the already outrageous taxes. You see, in socialism, everyone loses except “the man”...he just goes elsewhere!
Who would be their protectors if they became independent?
