Despite domestic violence conviction, NFL star continues to play

Ray Rice won't play in the NFL on Sunday, but a player convicted of domestic violence will. Greg Hardy, a star defensive end for the Carolina Panthers, will start for his team against the Detroit Lions.

Rice, meanwhile, might never play again, since the NFL suspended him indefinitely after a video was posted online that showed him punching out his now-wife.

Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings also won't play Sunday. His team suspended him as legal authorities proceed with his case over allegations of child abuse in Texas.

Hardy will start Sunday even though he's been convicted of domestic violence in North Carolina. Authorities say he choked his then-girlfriend, threw her around, dragged her by her hair and threatened to kill her.

Hardy -- 6-foot-4 and 275 pounds -- says he is innocent, and he has appealed a guilty verdict rendered by a Mecklenburg County judge.

Of the course the NFL is being led around on a leash by the media. The NFL is nothing more than a media construct these days, and in a bizarre way the NFL is probably thrilled with all of this coverage no matter how negative it may be.

They have successfully jumped the shark from a professional sports league to a 24/7 TV/internet drama with all of the . media frenzy that involves. They've been a headline story for weeks now, and the NFL's ticket sales and TV ratings will be the same regardless of whether or not Ray Rice and Greg Hardy ever suit up again for their teams.

If these guys were Average Joes, they'd be behind bars. You're right, judges are too lenient on celebs, athletes AND politicians. Surely, there's a morals clause in those contracts. If they were my employees, they'd never darken my door again and I certainly wouldn't rehire them with a wink-wink like Vick.

I alluded to that in a post on another thread. In schools, black children are disciplined at a higher rate than white children, so it must be racism. The solution is more "tolerance." It is the same in the NFL or the NBA. More black players will be disciplined over time than white players, and the drum beat will be that it is racism.

We have had any number of stories of black players who were fathered out of wedlock, or abandoned by their father, their mother was a drug addict and the player was raised by the auntie or grandmother. The player struggled, worked hard and eventually played at the college level and made it to the NFL, garnering all the riches and status that comes with it. The player is hailed as a role model. Suddenly, because of allegations of domestic violence, that could all be gone in a flash. This is not sitting well with the black community and the player's wives. Is there going to be a backlash against the feminists and the media? We shall see.
