Cruzifiction
American Vision ^ | September 13, 2014 | Joel McDurmon

Ted Cruz has made a serious mistake—one supported by sentiments of millions of American evangelicals—and it could cost the lives of many Christians.

I suppose you’ve heard by now that Ted Cruz was recently “booed off stage” for a senseless, ill-placed “stand with Israel” gaffe at a banquet for persecuted Middle East Christians. The worst part of his comments is not that they were calculated for self-serving political purposes—as others have noted already. Although that is certainly bad enough, it is hardly as offensive as the main implication of what he said. Apparently, we must agree with him, or else we are filled with hate and anti-Semitic.

When he said, “Christians have no greater ally than the Jewish state,” boos and jeers erupted from a vocal minority of the audience. It is not clear what their exact motivation or angle was, but it is clear that they did not agree fully with the political import of Cruz’s statement. The unfortunate twist came, however, with how Cruz interpreted their opposition: it has to be “hate”; it has to be “anti-semitism.”

It can’t be that Middle East Christians have a had a worse experience with Israel than the rainbows blessings Ted Cruz has learned about in some pro-“Israel” Bible study, safely tucked away in America somewhere between the pages of a Scofield Bible and a Left Behind novel, with hands laid-on by a charismatic millenarian prophesying about blessing “Abraham’s seed.” It can’t be that Middle East Christians are stuck in a much messier political scenario than is convenient for American evangelicals to comprehend within the box of their tidy eschatologies.

Whatever it is, it can’t be more complex than can be solved by the type of shameless political demagoguery you would expect from a Clinton. If you don’t follow...

Really ..????

What Senator Cruz was saying is found in Genesis 12:3, where GOD said to Abraham, “I will bless those who bless you.”

What GOD meant was exactly what He said - those who bless and support and defend Israel will in fact be blessed.

I stand with Senator Cruz .. I believe 100% in supporting, defending and blessing Israel. If people don’t agree with what GOD said, then I guess they don’t want or expect GOD to bless them. So be it ..!!!!

Yes. I see. Obama certainly would have been much better had he been in the senate for many more years. Like graham or McCain for instance

Lack of senatorial experience is the problem

Oy vey!

“Christians have no greater ally than the Jewish state,”

I don't know where the "gaffe" is in that statement.

That all depends on the strength of one’s character and that’s the advantage the junior senator from Texas has over all the rest.

What does any of this -- the conference, Cruz's speech, the booing and heckling, Cruz's walkout, all the subsequent controversy -- do to help persecuted Christians in the Middle East?

Maybe the gathering was itself just one of those Washington opportunities to network and look concerned, but how did Cruz's speech improve things for Christians in that part of the world? And if his goal was to improve relations between Arab or Arab-American Christians and Israelis or Jews, how did that work out?

Also, look at the comment that got Ted booed: “Christians have no greater ally than Israel.” Where is the US in that? Are we really not much of an ally for Middle Eastern Christians and other persecuted groups? Is that because Obama is so feckless? Or does Cruz really believe Netanyahu is the best friend of Christians in the region whoever's in the White House? Or is it just the sort of thing politicians blurt out without giving it much thought?

Assad is a protector of Christians, yet Cruz said nothing against Obama's policy of still trying to overthrow him. Who will support the Christians then? Cruz might be wise to acknowledge that the policy of overthrowing leaders who protect minorities is wrong. Does Israel have a policy of supporting governments only if they protect the rights of Christians and other minorities? This has got to be addressed. Anyone who supports the overthrow of govs that protect Christians is not a friend of Christianity. And that includes the US.

And Cruz should condemn the overthrow of such governments, or expect boos from those whose loved ones are being slaughtered.

This is more than likely the same group who supported John McCain (McCainiacs) - during the primary run-up to the 2000 election; and they were a horrid bunch to deal with.

Yeah, those actually are the people to be afraid of , lefty (author); they were steadfast against the Godless Soviets, and that shaped history. (Scofield Bible users not real likely to be "charismatic.")

I agree, with this caveat - when I am debating someone, and they display colossal stupidity (usually in the form of saying, “so what your saying is....” then proceeding to say something completely irrelevant to the point I was making, but outrageous and far from true - with no honest basis for that conclusion), in those cases I feel perfectly OK with sneering condescension to the full measure of my ability.

When folks lie, I might call them on it. But if they lie about me, or what I’ve said or what I think - I will beat them to a bloody intellectual pulp.

All that said, this was certainly not the case here - in fact, it is this writer who twisted Cruz’s words much as I described.

"This author certainly exhibits his anti Israel bias. I believe the boos were from muslims who were there, not Christians"

Plants, infiltrators and obamites.
There is nothing Christian about booing a person for standing with Israel.

Junior Senators with no executive experience are not Presidential timber.

Quite right.

Obama is the president with the second smallest degree of experience in government in our history, and look what a mess he's made of it.

Of course the only president with even less such experience, a single term in the House, was A. Lincoln. Oh, wait...

We presently have a black man in the White House...

Does this mean that all men and all blacks are unfit for office?

No, but this segment who is most closely aligned with Cruz’ positions could net 5-10 million votes if lured out of their apathy. RINO mormon candidates don’t exactly resonate with them.
