Upstate New York braces as Remington Arms packs up to leave
Human Events ^ | 9/8/2014 | Raquel Okyay

An upstate New York lawmaker said the loss of manufacturing jobs in the state last month is due to an anti-gun administration that has ignored pleas from local officials to be involved in the negotiating process.

“Remington talks have come to a halt,” said Assemblyman Marc W. Butler (R.-Newport), whose district includes the Village of Ilion, where the Remington Outdoor Company has been located for almost 200 years. “We are losing 105 jobs at the Ilion primary plant,” said Butler.

In February he predicted long-term consequences of Remington’s decision to expand to Huntsville, Ala., instead of Ilion, N.Y. The small community of 8,000 people Northwest of Albany will be hit-hard by the layoffs, said Butler. Remington, the country’s oldest firearm manufacturer, is adding a 500,000 sq.-ft. development site in Huntsville.

“It is very unfortunate for us in New York,” he said. “We have a great, quality work force; expansion here would have been ideal.” There were talks about additional facilities at “The Pumpkin Patch” in Herkimer County; however he said information was not given to the area senator or county officials, until after they learned about it in the news.

...

Remington 1911 and Bushmaster is shifting from New York to Alabama due to the odious provisions in the SAFE Act, he said. “Bushmaster rifles are considered assault weapons.” Bushmaster, who is the leading supplier of AR15-type rifles in the nation, is sold to consumers for hunting, recreation, competition, and home defense.

...

It is Cuomo’s anti-gun agenda that has hurt business and will continue to hurt business in New York, he said. “Remington has been critical of the SAFE Act since the gun-control law was championed by Cuomo in January 2013.”

I think Bushmaster does some .gov contracts, and we all know that HK and Glock does too. It’s actually a little difficult to get an HK because aside from the waiting because of the importing bullshit, you have to get in line behind the government. At least that’s how it was 15 years or so ago when I got my USP .45 Tactical(my favorite handgun). I think the biggest .gov manufacturers are Glock, HK, Colt, Sig, FN, Bushmaster, and maybe Beretta still.

Though Beretta makes some OUTSTANDING handguns, I believe they have fallen out of favor over the years. I’ve had a 92FS(M9)for YEARS and the thing has NEVER malfunctioned on me, using all sorts of cheap ammo and magazines. It also feels GREAT in the hand. Well balanced, easy to aim, and shoot - out of the box. Only drawback is the 9mm round. It won’t knock a drug/adrenaline crazed or large person on their ass. That’s why I like a .45 - no matter what kind of person you’re dealing with, if their hit, by force they WILL change direction. (that’s what I want)

People who work in “brick and mortar” factories are ill educated, smelly, sweaty, and crude semi humans.....I rember 3-5 years ago some lib on the radio saying coal miners WANT the government to shut coal down so they could work in clean, safe, convivial factories that make solar panels and windmills. I choked and almost shiite myself. Coal miners are a FAMILY working the same way their granpas, daddies, uncles, brothers have done for hundreds years. Besides, it’s now mostly ‘long wall’ and the hazards are greatly gone. Libs have no cognizance of reality.

“This is the same NY State that runs TV advertisements trying to induce new businesses to relocate by giving them a 10-year tax holiday.”

Driving existing businesses that pays taxes away, in favor of new businesses that pays no taxes?

On strictly fiscal basis, that is not serving the residents and taxpayers well, at all.

I really like the idea that the firearms factories will be located in states that trend towards more liberty.
When the SHTF, the pro-fascist states won’t have many armories.
The only way to preserve traditional American constitutionalism is for the aggregation of like minded conservatives into the free states.

What’s the loss of 105 citizen jobs compared to the fact cuomo will not lose his?

Sad, but not unexpected. Both of my parents worked at Remington Arms during WWII. Alabama is a much friendlier environment for them these days.

Last winter we went to Niagara Falls.
Great time to go as few touristas then.
Talked extensively with a tour guide at Fort Niagara who told me the whole Buffalo area was at one time the industrial center of America.
Lost it all due to Unions.

“Illinois could lose East St. Louis too.”

But ESL has no influence at all in the state, though I’d like to see it become part of Missouri. Chicago dominates the state, and its cancer affects all of us.

The reality is Conservative will never organize to punish the OEM’s for supporting Liberal Governments in MD, CA, NY, MA, etc...

The power is in the consumers hands and in this segment of the market it is the Conservative that buys firearms and ammunition... but we are too nice and thoughtful to really make SIG, Remington and others to yeild to our demands.

We would rather sit back, watch and complain on the internet!
