I’ve lost several friends/squadronmates due to mid-air collisions during ACM and air-to-ground sorties as well as just running into each other at night while trying to rendezvous. It’s still a dangerous business irrespective of the sophistication of the aircraft involved.

At some point, the U.S. Navy will reveal the results of its investigation and detail, to the best of its ability, why two F/A-18s apparently collided in the Western Pacific. It will be a thorough and dry analysis of what happened.
