ANALYSIS: Obama Plays Catch-Up With Public and Himself Sep 10, 2014 ANALYSIS by RICK KLEIN
President Obama on Wednesday night entered a new phase of his presidency -- and he did it in a most Obama of ways.
First, to whats changed: Hes announcing a war, not ending one. Hes preparing to act without Congress, almost exactly a year after deferring to the legislative branch on a question of whether to use American military force.
The president is rushing to catch up with and soothe an anxious, even frightened, public. Hes doing it while looking to reverse perceptions that hes been slow to respond to metastasizing crises in the Middle East and beyond.
I can announce that America will lead a broad coalition to roll back this terrorist threat, the president declared. Our objective is clear: we will degrade, and ultimately destroy, ISIL through a comprehensive and sustained counter-terrorism strategy.
That last word strategy appeared four times in the presidents prime-time address. The repetition was an implicit follow-up to an already infamous quote from two weeks ago, when the president said We dont have a strategy yet to confront ISIS in Syria.
Yet the president did not announce any new actions, beyond sending fewer than 500 new service members to Iraq, and repeated request for Congress to fund training of Syrian opposition forces. He said I will not hesitate to take action against ISIL in Syria, but cautioned that it will take time to eradicate a cancer like ISIL.
Its worth noting the tortuous path he took to get to even this point. Back at the beginning of the year, he famously compared the al Qaeda group that had taken over Fallujah, Iraq, to the jayvee team in Los Angeles Lakers uniforms.

...just saying.
In the olden days of Vaudeville the stage managers had a special tool to extract losers from the stage.
Obama is one of those losers. GET THE HOOK!
Just the fact Ø is sticking with the ISIL meme over ISIS shows that nothing has changed - he is still the muslim brotherhood president, and is doing what he can to boost the caliphate while saying otherwise.
This from the same camel jockey that said al Qaeda had been routed.
Now he’s going to do the same thing to ISIS.
This guy puts a whole new face on stupid!
trending on twitter, not to make light of it but #SuicideAwarenessDay
#ObamaSpeech
“Okay I finished my homework, can I go out and play now?”
And how many countries did Bush 43 have in coalition for the invasion of Iraq?? - a pot full - all gave something - a few a lot. Bush 41 had a large coalition too.
Yup, THAT’s the hook.
I’d use a gaff.
NOT nice! :)
How in the name of all that is holy did this guy get elected to office not once but twice?
He still is intent on us being on the wrong side in Syria.
When it is a choice between two evils you should choose the lesser and not the greater evil.
Supporting the rebels in Syria will risk confrontation with Russia. Syria is not worth such a confrontation.
Obama will seek to strike Assad while claiming his intent is to weaken IS. Russia will see through such foolishness.
"White guilt." Everybody Loves Barry.
Color me racist, but I never liked him! Still don’t. As a matter of fact I hate him.
Pure fantasy when the President Zero claimed that Islam is not a violent religion.
