Republicans may be poised for strong midterm gains, according to a new poll conducted for NBC News and the Wall Street Journal.
Republicans hold a two-point lead nationwide on which party registered voters want to see in control of Congress. That lead expands to 10 points in Senate battleground states at 50 to 40 percent in the poll, conducted by Democratic polling firm Hart Research and Republican pollster Public Opinion Strategies. "With 56 days until Election Day, our poll provides greater insight into what is likely to happen, and the news is not good for the Democrats," Democratic pollster Fred Yang writes in an accompanying memo.
President Obama is a huge drag on the party his approval rating is down to 40 percent with 54 percent disapproving, tied for the lowest number the poll has found in his presidency.
There's also been a major shift on immigration in the last few months, according to the poll, which helps explain why Republicans have been attacking Senate Democrats for supporting "amnesty" in a number of Senate races.
Public approval for giving illegal immigrants a pathway to citizenship has narrowed to 53 to 45 percent, down from 64 to 35 percent support in April.
The live-caller poll of 1,000 registered voters, including 35 percent who only have a cellphone, was conducted from Sept. 3 to 7 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percent.
lol. No. As it stands now, Senate polls are tied at 50-50 and that’s without the KS insanity. In fact, the Princeton election Consortium which but for one Senate race, has been perfect since 2008, has the Dims at 85% to KEEP their majority.
Why do I point this out? Because election after election there is always happy talk and we are typically disappointed and wonder why what happened happened and there are no lack of bizarre conspiracy theories.
Facts. All that matters regardless the source. Only then can you make effective decisions.
It should be an epic Tsunami.
The real question is will the GOPe get in the way with its stupid Immigration amnesty crap.
Eugene will be busy writing his article blaming racism, the rich, and Bush for the election results.
Don’t misunderestimate them!
Nate Silver’s 538 program which has nailed it two cycles in a row currently gives the Republicans a 64% chance of taking the Senate.
Current Senate: 45R vs. 55D
90% chance: GOP+6 = 51R vs. 49D
50% chance: GOP+9 = 54R vs. 46D
Perfect storm: GOP+11 = 56R vs. 44D
Most likely scenario: GOP+8 = 53R vs. 47D
What qualifies as a “wave”?
I can see November from my house.
I am concerned about Georgia. Too many people are buying the Sam Nunn, Zell Miller comments on Sam’s daughter Michelle. This is especially true of old time Democrats who have been staunch Republican voters.
. . . but doesnt say how many of them have (or had) Republican incumbents. In those cases, a loss but not a gain is possible for the Republicans.
a) They will snatch victory from the jaws of defeat by becoming wishy washy milqeutoast versions of Democrats
b) They complete the filling of the Senate by a bunch of Tea Party hating RINOs who will manage to alienate conservatives so much that 2016 will be a cake walk for the Democrat.
He probably already has those articles written. He just has a few blank spaces to fill in specific results and names, then he just attaches that file to an email to his publisher and hits the “send” button.
Eugene is then done for the day. He grabs a beer and heads back to the couch.
Watch for a push to get a mass of illegal aliens registered as Demonrats and taken to the polls. That’s why the Dems have been so implacably against proof of citizenship as a requisite for voting.
McConnell is already on record as saying if he becomes the majority leader he will restore the 60 vote requirement for cloture that Harry Reid reduced to a 51 vote majority. If he does so it won’t matter if there is a 53 or 54 seat Republican majority. Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, Elizabeth Warren and all of the other progressive Democrats who cry crocodile tears about Republican obstruction will gladly use the filibuster to tie up the Senate and thwart any Republican agenda.
Meanwhile the Obama, the media, Pelosi, and Reid will be screaming every day about the do nothing Republican Congress that is preventing the work of the people from being done.
If you don’t believe it, look what is happening with appropriations for 2015. The House has voted out several bills while the Senate has yet to vote on one. Reid and Obama are deliberately trying to create another government budget shutdown crisis in the middle of the midterm election. The Republicans are afraid to fight again so they will agree to a continuing resolution that will fund the government beyond the election. To pass it, Reid and the White House will extract some major concessions from the GOP House while screaming in the media about the Republicans playing games with the budget.
For the past 4 years Boehner and the GOP House have declined to use the powers granted by the Constitution to the House of Representatives to thwart the agenda of President Obama. Why does anyone expect the GOP to suddenly go to war with the president if they win the Senate, particularly under the leadership of Mitch McConnell?
To accomplish your wishlist you not only need to win the congress....you need the Whitehouse.
A thread like that is BS. Really a bunch of armchair phony conservatives that have given up all hope and are trying to spread there gloom. Hardly the type I’d choose to go to battle with.
Boy, I sure hope so. I pondered posting it as I thought it might be Dem agitprop, but based on the GOP-e's past record . . .
I agree. But can't the Gutless Old Pu$$ies at least stand tall for something that would advance the welfare of America and our Constitution - and not just the welfare of the Gibsmedats!!??
When has it ever hurt to stand up for something that was morally right instead of politically "safe"?
Oh, I share your cynicism. I do not for one moment have any faith in them, history has shown they will undoubtedly take away the wrong message if they make gains.
Any “wave” will be offset by massive vote fraud.
