BTW, consider this an idea, ask FRpers where were they when the first got the news on this thread as well. Thank-you.
TY for posting. I wasn’t a member of FR back then.

There are many sites that carry this most famous of the 9/11 memorials, the Steve Golding memorial. After so many years some do not work. If neither site works, look up 'America attacked 9/11." It is well worth your time. It should be required viewing for every American. Be prepared for a good cry, though.
The second site carries a 'message' and a description of 'that day' in his own words from the creator of the website, Steve Golding, and reference to the Pentagon attack. Be sure to see them. Very powerful.
Steve, may God rest his soul, has since died from an injury sustained on 9/11. God bless you, Steve- and thank you for leaving us this wonderful and moving memorial to the heroes of 9/11.
Read Steve's message to Americans and the 9/11 attackers here
And read Steve's account in his own words of 'That Day' here
Dear God
Bless the innocent Americans who lost their lives on 9/11 and all the departed veterans who gave their lives in the service of their country. Grant that through the passion, death, and resurrection of Your Son that they may share in the joy of Your heavenly kingdom forever.
We humbly ask Your protection for all our men and women in military service. Give them unflinching courage to defend with honor, dignity, and devotion the rights of all who are imperiled by injustice and evil.
Thank You for our veterans, for their willingness to risk all so that our nation might dwell in peace and safety. May they find the honor and recognition they truly deserve.

Thank you. It’s sad that so many of our younger generation were either not yet born or are too young to remember. And they won’t learn about it in school, except maybe that 9/11 is our fault.
One thread, post-9/11, that I particularly remember was some guy whining because his mean old boss was making him fly for business reasons. He sounded pathetic while most Americans were getting on with their lives, and other Americans were preparing to go to war for us. I think he was eventually shamed off of the forum.
Saving BUMP.
Thanks for posting this (((ping)))
Still makes me boil thinking of what those goat-humping pedophile worshipers did.
I was 13 years old and in 8th Grade, since this was before the Era of ubiquitous Cell Phones and Media, both on Students and in the class rooms. I had to wait until 5th Hour History Class around 10:30 Central Time before I got to see what Rumors I had been hearing about all day.
At First I heard a Plane had crashed, Then a Plan had Crashed into a Building, then it was the World Trade Center and it had "Caved In".
So Imagine my Shock when I watched them fall.
I was worried they would come to my school since we have a War Memorial Adjacent to Rosedale.
I was also worried about my Father that afternoon when he went to work since he worked a power plant (I would attack the power stations if I were a terrorist)
I also remember that afternoon, being puzzled in Orchestra class why we were not playing our Pro-American Music we had been practicing.
Never forget!
I was in Topeka, KS at the time of the attacks. I’d just recently celebrated one year of marriage (we’re still married, btw) and was competing in my second SCCA Solo National Championship at Forbes Field. Results are based on the best runs over two courses, run over two days. My first day of competition was to be Tuesday, September 11.
Part of competing in an SCCA Solo event, regardless of whether it’s the National Championships or a local event, is that you have to work during one heat in order to have your results count. I was doing my work assignment in impound when the news came of the first plane hitting the WTC; this was during the first heat on Tuesday. Before the heat had ended, a second plane had hit the other tower and both towers had collapsed. By the time Heat 2 had completed its runs, we had been ordered to leave the premises and the event was suspended until further notice. We did resume competition on Thursday, and results for the event would be based on the best run (of three) from one day of competition. For my part, I came in 15th of 53 entrants in my class; this was the highest finish among those of us who didn’t win trophies.
It was a little scary knowing what had just happened, especially being almost 2000 miles from my family and friends. But it did open my eyes to a lot of things.
Oh, and I was not yet a Freeper; it took the election of Obama to get me to stop lurking and join.
I was finishing breakfast at the window of my apartment on the 29th floor overlooking Battery Park Place, when the second plane flew right past my window. I then heard banging sounds behind me, but thought at first that it was some idiot making sonic booms over the city.
We were evacuated down to the sidewalk shortly after, with no explanation, but when I got down to the street and saw the plane-shaped burning holes on both of the Trade Towers, and recalled the earlier Muslim attack on them, I knew immediately that it must be an act of terrorism. One plane maybe an accident, but not two.
I won’t say more now, but needless to say there were many more painful and moving experiences to follow, and it was a dominant force in my life for quite a while.
bump for later
I seem to recall the servers were getting pommelled, understandably so, because I can’t seem to find any posts between 10:30 AM and the afternoon. Does anyone else remember on that day how it was trying to follow on FR?
I was working as a sub for CSC on an airline safety software program in NJ.

It was a morning I’ll not soon forget. I live in the NW Chicago burbs and my wife was commuting daily to her gig at a building less than a block from the Sears Tower. I was enjoying my regular morning FReep, albeit slowly on DSL, when word came of the first plane crashing into WTC. I had FNC going on the kitchen TV, and when the web became too slow to follow the FR thread I moved to the kitchen ... just in time to see the second plane crash.
I finally got through to my wife on the phone ... she and her co-workers were just getting bits and pieces of the news. There was speculation that Sears Tower was another likely target. She said building management had come by and issued orders to close all the window blinds to prevent injuries from flying glass should the windows be blown out.
I told her to get the hell out of Dodge immediately no matter what her bosses said. I said to leave the building and get on the first train she can find, no matter there it’s going, and that I’d be there to pick her up. She and a small handful of friends made it out to the burbs safely and I delivered them all to their homes.
