IDF forces played a crucial role in helping Irish soldiers rescue UN troops from the clutches of Syrian jihadists in a fierce clash on the border with Israel last week.
Senior military sources said that Irish soldiers would have been killed or taken captive if it werent for action taken by the IDF on August 30 during a mission to evacuate dozens of Filipino soldiers who were surrounded by a larger force of militants, the Irish Independent reported on Sunday.

Good job, IDF.
Of course, all of this underscores the pointlessness of a UN buffer force that won’t fight.

Under cover of darkness, 40 Filipino peacekeepers who were surrounded and came under fire by Syrian rebels in the Golan Heights made their overnight daring escape at the end of August. Forty-four Fijian soldiers remained in the hands of the insurgents. The Fijian soldiers, who were apparently ordered to lay down their arms by the UN peacekeeping commander in the Golan Heights, surrendered to the Al-Nusra front and are still being held captive at an unknown location.
According to the report, the al-Qaeda-linked Al-Nusra has said it intends to try the men under Sharia law.
Should have fought to the death instead.

The Filipinos got the order to lay down their arms and refused.
God bless them!

Surrendering to the jihadis is a good way to get your head cut off.

The total population of Fiji is 900,000. Loosing 40 people in a “UN peacekeeping” force is tantamount to genocide. Why is the UN intent on Fiji genocide?

It also underscores the hypocrisy of a UN buffer force that presumes that the arabs and Israelis are morally equivalent, but is only safe if the Israelis keep them safe.

Since the captive soldiers are black AND from the Pacific will Sultan Hussein make any effort to save them?

There isn’t much that happens around those parts that the IDF isn’t involved in, either openly or otherwise.

They were part of a ‘disengagement force’? LOL.
There’s the first problem, by the very name I would avoid those missions like the plague.
These countries that let their soldiers work for the UN are obviously run by idiots.
Ireland even says outright that the UN is the cornerstone in their policies. That’s far more than facepalm worthy.

The Filipinos got the order to lay down their arms and refused. The Filipinos know about the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and Abu Sayyef.
To: lbryce
This is true, and due in no small measure to the influence of both the IRA and the European Union.
