In an effort to prevent traitorous Americans from joining ISIS, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) introduced legislation on Monday that would revoke their U.S. citizenships if they do.
Speaking on the Senate floor this afternoon, he explained why such legislation is finally necessary.
ISIS is a study in oppression and brutality that is conducting ethnic cleansing against religious minorities in the region, that is targeting and persecuting Christians, and that is attempting to subject the local population to the strictest forms of Sharia Law, he said. And ISIS has gruesomely murdered U.S. civilians and, indeed, journalists on the public stage."
Washington lawmakers must therefore take two forms of action to protect Americans. First, he argued, securing all U.S. borders.
It is beyond time for us to secure our borders, he declared. Representing the state of Texas, which has a border nearly 2,000 miles long, I know firsthand just how unsecure the border is right now."
"This week of all weeks with the anniversary of the September 11th attacks upon us, we can have no illusions that terrorists wont try to make good on their specific threats to attack America," he continued. "And as long as our border isnt secure, were making it far too easy for the terrorists to carry through on those promises.
Secondly, he said, Washington lawmakers "should take commonsense steps to make fighting for or supporting ISIS a [citizenship-stripping offense].
That is why I have today filed legislation which would amend the existing statue governing renunciation of United States citizenship," he announced.
[Defeating ISIS] requires clear, decisive, unified action, he continued. And it is my hope that all of us will come together supporting such action.

Question: "How many democRAT senators heard this, agreed with the basic facts and thought to themselves ... 'so, what's the problem'?"
This is a very tricky piece of legislation. The hard part will be to limit it specifically to ISIS, because under no circumstances should congress be able to *easily* strip citizenship.
Because you can bet your bottom dollar that Democrats would abuse it to strip conservatives of theirs. Probably on the whim of a Democrat POTUS.
Another great reason to reduce the power of the office of the presidency to constitutional levels.
Senator Cruz, the problem lies much deeper.
Even if American ISIS terrorists lose their passports, new ones will be generated inside the country — Islam and its evil teaching is self-generating right here at home.
How can you allow a group of people to stay inside the country who all take their marching orders from one book, the Koran, that openly teaches that infidels should have their heads removed?
Infidels? That’s you and I and many millions of American citizens who are in danger as long as these muslims live among us.
Go challenge my logic.
Obama would rewrite this with an Executive Order that would make it citizen-revocation for any group HE arbitrarily calls 'terrorist'.
Like the NRA or the Tea Party.
DO NOT SET THIS PRECEDENT.
There are already numerous "expatriating acts" on the books that are basically ignored today, such as serving in a foreign government, voluntarily serving in a foreign military, naturalizing as a foreign citizen. Come passport renewal time, the US citizen who does this stuff only has to sign an affidavit that it was not his intention to lose US citizenship - and all is forgiven.
Of course, the fact that Cruz's bill will never get out of Harry Reid's Senate, makes the above quite moot.
