George W. Bush was known and often criticized for being insular during his eight years in the White House, but he made regular calls to a surprising adviser during his second term: his predecessor.
Bill Clinton revealed on Monday that the second President Bush picked his brain twice a year for 30-45 minutes, in wide-ranging conversations that no doubt set the stage for the surprising, "brother-from-another-mother" relationship that the two ex-presidents now share.
Bush would call Clinton "just to talk," during his last four years in the White House, the Democrat said in a joint event at the Newseum in Washington.

Are those lines from movies? Which ones?
You’re right and as a southerner raised in the same era as Slick....albeit at a higher and firmer station
I would not sell short his political skills and ability to make folks like him
He was a master....a sociopath but very very adept at the game
Cruz is the only stalwart
Palin ain’t playing
I had and have no use for Clinton. I hated him when he was in office. But I truly believe he does love the country. Didn’t agree with most of what he did but compared to Obama, he is at least an American.
I don't know on what planet someone I speak to by phone twice a year for 30-45 minutes is a person I would consider an adviser, or even a confidante.
Just me?
I think W is a good man, but he surrounded himself with DEMOCRATS!! His wife...his mother.....McKinnon.....etc. He COULD have been GREAT.....he went to the mediocre at best side.
The reality is that no “real republican conservative with teeth of iron and a lead backbone” (if there was someone like that) could be elected in this current society. The majority of voters today want someone who makes them “feel” good gives them goodies. Not only are the politicians wimps, so are the voters.
Thanks for the Sydney Greenstreet/Maltese Falcon sub-reference!
There are no “good men” except for Jesus. But look for a man that at least fears God, loves the truth and hates covetousness.
“Compassionate Triangulation”
Explains a lot.
>> I kind of saw it that way too. What better way to help Hillary than to let it be known he'd be a sounding board for her, like he was for Bush.
In 2008 he said that he'd be there for Hillary "if she needed him". However, it creates an unconstitutional Third Term for Mr. Bubba. Recall that his wife ALSO served 8 years as the self-declared "un-elected co-president".
Toss the bums out. Rats have already gone on campaign trails suggesting that voting for Hillary means a third term for Bill Clinton.
You’d be an absolute fool (like Obama) not to try to “pick the brain” of anyone who’s held the most unique job in the world once you’ve stepped in. You don’t have to agree with that person or even follow what they would have done, but getting insight into the decision-making process has to be invaluable.
I talk to my cousin a couple times a year. That’s about what I can stand.
He’s probably waiting for that Al Gore comeback tour to kick off.
I would imagine that any mention of his name in the media increases the Clinton foundation(think Hillary thighs) by 5 - 10%...
So then certainly President Hillary will consult regularly with W on all matters Presidential.
Yeah. RIIIIIIGHT!
