“1.6 M will get you a decent lot with a 2 bedroom / 1 bath “teardown” around here.”
That is obscene! My house, a 5,000 sq ft ranch, with another 1,500 sq ft of finished living space has more square footage than the ‘decent lot’ that comes with this pos real estate. My living room has 2/3’s the sq footage of this house. And finally, why in H3ll does anyone still want to live in Kalifornia?
“About 6 months ago I first heard about Belle Isle...”
More years ago than I can remember I was in Detroit several times, always over the Labor Day weekend. I lived in Iowa in those days. I do remember Belle Isle...really a great place. I also remember the hydroplanes, the big ones, racing on the Detroit River. Saw one of them flip. Detroit was a really great place to visit in those days.
Later when living in Ohio and raising a family, we went to Dearborn Village and the Ford Museum. Very educational...for me and for the kids.
I had my first taste of Vernor’s in Detroit those many years ago...draft Vernors! I was hooked! One time there one of those Chrysler gas turbine cars (body by Ghia) was beside me at a traffic light. Amazingly quiet. And it had acceleration. Wanted one!
Belle Isle struck me as being a beautiful place.
By the way,I have never even heard of Vernor’s. (I’m in MA.) Guess I missed out on something.
.
Beach is 4 blocks away; very good school, shopping, restaurants, etc all walking distance. Very low crime. The town is still a great place, though I can't say the same for the rest of LA county or the State.
But for real obscene - check out this nearby charming 3,400 square foot beach cottage - now reduced to only $16.9 million - and also being sold as a "teardown"
my oldest sister married and moved to Maryland...everytime my mom went to visit her she had to take a case of Vernors. Its a good drink, warmed and with a bit of lemon when you have a cold. Real warm but not hot...
Mind blowing in that $1.6 million in L.A. won’t buy much house at all.
Interesting...I looked at the taxes on this place, and mine are $2,000 more/yr with a similar assessed value.
Neat house, would love to walk around it for a day..
That's out the window when it sells again. The new owner will pay about 1 percent of sales price yearly, i.e. a $160k annual tax bill. (but then again he can afford a $16M house)
Easy. A concrete tower with miniguns at each corner of the lot, along with a lane down each side for free-ranging German Shepherds. Safe and sound.
Did two gay guys buy it? That’s usually the first sign of a turnaround.
Gays tried to move in and take over the Palmer Park Apartment Building Historic District only to be chased out by the high crime from the neighbors.

Usually they will move into high crime areas if the housing stock is old and interesting. But even they have limits, I guess.
