I don’t think anyone thinks they have sexual contact with the corpses, but many reports have used phrases that referred to traditional practices that involve contact with the body.
Have searched to no avail to find out if this means that a few relatives are involved in the cleanup of the body or if they mean that everyone at the wake is expected to embrace the corpse.
I suspect that it is the former, as I remember reading that the situation is made worse because the relatives then prepare food for the grieving visitors, which helps to spread the virus.
