S. Truett Cathy, the billionaire founder of the privately held Chick-fil-A restaurant chain that famously closes on Sundays but also drew unwanted attention on gay marriage in recent years because of his familys conservative views, died early Monday, a company spokesman said. He was 93.
Chick-fil-A spokesman Mark Baldwin told The Associated Press that Cathy died at home surrounded by members of his family. Funeral plans had not yet been finalized, he said.

RIP Mr Cathy! Great American, Great Business man. Thank you Sir!
“S. Truett Cathy, the billionaire founder of the privately held Chick-fil-A restaurant chain that famously closes on Sundays but also drew unwanted attention on gay marriage in recent years because of his familys conservative views, died early Monday, a company spokesman said.”
AP sure knows how to write an obitchuary. But, they had to work hard to squeeze their obvious distaste for Mr. Cathy into that first, run-on sentence.
What a bunch of a++holes.
It still says a lot about a man who can start from nothing and build a billion dollar business.
When Perimeter Mall (north of Atlanta) opened way back in the day, there was a Chick-fil-A. I am not a fan of chicken & never ordered any food, but I loved their Cokes.
For some reason, their Cokes were the best—just the right mixture of syrup, carbonated water and & carbonation. Add the shaved ice and it was perfection!
Sounds silly, but after all these years, I still remember how a Coke from Chick-fil-A tasted.
Prayers up, RIP
I’ll do the same.
the fags will now try to infiltrate Chik-fil-A and push their agenda, to tarnish his efforts while bashing his character. they consider that a victory.
Chik-fil-A needs to be encouraged to stay true to his vision, less they lose their way
This is AP's way of saying that "In the weeks following attacks by homosexual militants, millions of loyal customers organized immediately, waiting patiently in long lines to be served, and the chain registered its best quarter ever."
But his son is running the company, the same one who actually made the remarks so offensive to Satan's people.
CFA is used to dealing with chickens. They made a few changes after the hissyflap to remove the company's charity from marriage-related political funds, and have never denied access or employment to GL's; the business has continued to boom. The most important thing is for authentic families -- biologically-related mom'n'dad'n'buddy'n'sis families -- to continue patronizing CFA in large numbers. I always encounter really nice people when I go there.
After the big foofahrah, I downloaded locations of every CFA from PA to GA along Rt. 95, so I can plan to stop whenever I travel my route.
On to a greater reward than the haters will ever know.
God Bless S. Truett Cathy. He had the courage as a Christian to honor God and families by keeping his business closed on Sundays at a time that few would consider let alone do what he did. May his family continue to have the courage to follow his lead and continue to honor God and Family on Sundays.
“...died at home surrounded by members of his family”.
Not like some heathen on the street surrounded by LEO.
RIP faithful servant, well done.
They must be referring to the unwanted attention that broke the all time sales record for the company. Oh yeah, that attention!
The problem isn’t that Chick-fil-A doesn’t represent Chicago values, it’s that Chicago no longer has Chick-fil-A values.
In the mid-80’s I heard Mr. Cathy give his testimony during a worship service. Later that day I talked with him for a few minutes at a reception. I found him personable and smart, an humble Christian gentleman. I’ve never forgotten how he made a point to get to know me rather than talking about himself, something most in his position don’t do.
Many people make it big, but it is the rare individual who never forgets Who is bigger than themselves.
Rest in peace, Mr. Cathy.
Exactly. And watch what happens to Chick-Fil-A sales when it does.
Amen.
“but also drew unwanted attention on gay marriage”
Should read,
But, in the biased opinion of this liberal writer who holds pro-LGBT views, and with which opinion I am writing as fact, drew unwanted attention on gay marriage.
Thank you for standing tall against the darkside, Mr. Cathy. RIP.
