U.S. President Barack Obama says the U.S. military would help in the fight against the Ebola virus in West Africa, which has killed more than 2,000 people.
Speaking on NBC's Meet the Press, Obama said U.S. military assets were needed to set up isolation units and equipment, and provide security for international health workers. He said he believed the United States needed to make dealing with the Ebola outbreak a national security priority.
He warned that it would still take months to control the epidemic and said that if efforts were not made now the outbreak could spread across Africa and around the world.
Meanwhile, authorities in Sierra Leone are ordering people to stay at home for three days this month as part of an effort to stop the spread of the Ebola virus, which has killed more than 2,000 people in West Africa.

Sounding more and more like “ Planet Terror!”
He really wants to kill us off
Actually I'm not sure that would suffice. Some cases would get smuggled past whatever red lines Obama would draw. History proves it is very hard to completely stop motivated smuggling. However there is a truly military tactic that would work, that is clinically well tested and based on sound epidemiologic principals. It has defeated worse infectious agents than Ebola. And it is quite simple: if one member of the herd is infected, you kill the entire exposed herd. There are numerous successful veterinary examples. The science is the same with human animals. Any differences are purely ethical and moral; we all know how much those mean to Obama. It would be just like really late abortions. When Bush was president the UK killed over 10M in '2001 and more in '2007 to clear Foot and Mouth. Neither the breed, nor even the species, of those susceptible and exposed mattered. So the identity of the targets of this Ebola solution shouldn't matter to Obama, just the greater good of ending the epidemic. Just page 'Doctor LeMay.'
Yes, the US Military could do a lot of good...
...but the issue of “doing good” has to tempered with realism, which this will not be given the current America Presidential Administration.
Do you remember what happened in Somalia when the locals learned we would not use lethal force to prevent them from stealing our military gear?
I guarantee that we will have even more politically correct rules of engagement (ROE) for Liberia and which every nation we state aircraft from.
On the gripping hand, the Chemical corps will sure get some practice decontaminating aircraft, gear and troops of Ebola slime.
They will need that practical experience for training people in CONUS, before this is over.
It seems the biggest problem is one of adequate supplies of PPE. I would think that could be pallet-dropped off a C-130 without ever landing.
The issue for WHO is that no civilian airlines are flying in, cargo or passenger.
Any USAF flight into these hot zones will be both carrying in and departing with mixed loads of people and cargo.
Some of those people out will be big wigs & their families...and some will be sick or slimed.
WINGING_IT_UNTIL_SOROS_GETS_BACK_FROM_VACATION_PING!
That's likely how this got to Lagos.
Thanks for the ping!
God help us if that's what Obama wants to do...
Our military is for holding umbrellas.../s
Youre Welcome, Alamo-Girl!
I think the big wigs would have to be told, in no uncertain terms, that a condition of receiving aid is that they be there. No passengers out.
The job of the United States Military is to kill people and break things and then protect the innocent.
The job of containing Ebolo is of the World Health Organization. The only thing the United States Military should do relative to Ebolo is controlling our borders and
god forbid, quarantine areas within our borders.

>>uncertain terms, that a condition of receiving aid

The Obama Administration is too incompetent and corrupt to make that kind of deal.
It is not a question of whether there will be more Patrick Sawyers leaving West Africa on USAF C-130’s.
It is how many will happen before the panic with the American public sets in.
That’s why I was thinking just drop the supplies and never actually land.
SJ,
The British Army and Chinese CDC are putting Ebola treatment hospitals in Liberia.
The USAF will be doing mixed passenger/cargo flights to support them.

I wonder if the nuclear plants aboard our ships can also cause problems with the sailors?
