Republican Greg Abbott says he grieves for Democrat Wendy Davis after his gubernatorial opponent revealed that she once had an abortion upon learning that the fetus had a severe brain abnormality.
Abbott said Saturday in a statement that the unspeakable pain of losing a child is beyond tragic for any parent. He said he grieves for the Davis family and the loss of life.
Davis, a state senator from Fort Worth, discloses the abortion for the first time in her new memoir, Forgetting to Be Afraid. She had become pregnant in 1996 but had the abortion after doctors told her the child would be deaf, blind and in a permanent vegetative state.
Davis said she fell under an indescribable blackness.
Abbott, who opposes abortion, and Davis are vying to replace Gov. Rick Perry next year.
Davis did not respond to reporters requests for interviews on the topic Saturday in Dallas, but she did release part of an exclusive interview with ABC News Good Morning America that will air Monday. In it, she talks about her difficult decision in what she calls a tragic experience.(continued)

She had become pregnant in 1996 but had the abortion after doctors told her the child would be deaf, blind and in a permanent vegetative statePre-emptive euthanasia?
Which time ?
The first time .. ?
or the second time .. ?
Good for Abbot on how he responded and avoided the media attempt to make him the issue.
She didn’t lose a Child, she lost a “mass of tissue”, a parasite if you will.
It’s all there in the Democrat Rule Book.
She didn’t lose a Child, she “chose” to kill a Disabled Child who probably could have Bowled a better game than Obama.
Words have meaning.
Just how many were there?
It doesn’t have nearly as much to do with being a woman as it does being an attention whore.
Isn’t this the same Wendy Davis that claimed she worked her way through college as a single mom only to have it discovered that her husband paid for her degree and she left him?
And what (alleged) brain abnormality is worse than being a demonicrat who murders her own child?!
I don’t believe Davis. She’s a Democrat politician, and therefore, a pathological liar.
There is no way to verify what she is saying because of HIPAA, so she can pretty much make up any lie she wants that will bolster her pro-abortion agenda.
Greg Abbott, be quiet. Election in November, just be still.
Do not pull a Clayton.
Exactly right. She murdered the baby because it was inconvenient.
I watched “October Baby” a couple days ago. I have seen it several times.
I highly recommend it.
The scene with the retired nurse is most tragic but near the end there is a scene that reminds me (somewhat) of this story.
As Christians, we must see all sin as reprehensible - not just those we may not have yet committed. And we must remember that the penalty for all sin has already been paid.
When we accept the gift that God has given, we accept forgiveness and are set free from the penalty of our sin.
Then we begin to trust Christ as Lord and have power over sin.
Wendy is lying through her teeth in her attack ads. It would not surprise me if she really had the abortion because the tissue mass would just be in the way.
Davis got smashed by the Republican machine pretty good and now she has to fight back with her political game trying to draw sympathy over abortion in her life.
If I were Abbott I would express concern. I wouldn’t get drawn into a political trap.
In my gut I wonder if decisions Davis made in her life caused the unborn child to have problems during the pregnancy.. God sure knows but I don’t have to play God here.
I need to accept the insanity of politics and move on,
That tactic seems at-odds with how she and the left portray abortion. Usually it's pronounced as a form of empowerment, not something to be ashamed of.
“A painful, person decision” is the line here and its about drawing in Pro-Abortion cash and hoping to bait a Republican who will criticize her so they can tee off on that with the media to trash the GOP.
The abortion story is tragic and may reflect the insanity of political activists lives. I lived the life of a “drunk” political activist myself for many years.
She didn’t lose it, Vet, she threw it away. I can only imagine that kind of diagnosis, but still, she didn’t just lose it.
