Staying stoned is the only thing keeping a lot of Leftists from shooting up a mall or a school. These commies aren't getting any brighter, just squeezing the proles more.

It's almost as if they've realized they are approaching The Cliff, and rather than stop, they speed up.

My husband injured his back, then we got rear ended in an accident, so he went to the doctor. It was almost impossible to get any pain pills, and after all his suffering, we found out there was a stronger one he could have been taken. His pain reduced him to almost an invalid. Luckily we found out about steroid injections in the back, he had three, and is much better and off the pain pills. Pain pills do not make you euphoric or happy or stoned. They barely ease the pain. He had MRI, etc. He has spinal stenosis and herniated discs. He has been in pain most of this year. I have been doing everything for him, including mowing our lawn. Pain pills should be easier to get, not harder to get.

The article states: “Today’s action recognizes that these products are some of the most addictive and potentially dangerous prescription medications available,” said DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart.

THIS IS BS! I have taken them too, when I hurt my back. They are NOT at all addictive. They barely even ease the pain! We have never found them to be addictive at all. There is no euphoric or stoned feeling to them. And I should know, I was a hippie in the 1960s in college.

They are like aspirin, you take them for the pain, that is all. If they could be stronger they could possibly help more, but they are NOT addictive at all.

This will put Vicodin/Hydrocodone in the same classification as Oxycodone(OxyContin) and Morphine, ect. COMPLETELY wrong headed and stupid. The DEA already has providers so scared/intimidated to prescribe these types of medicines, patients that are literally suffering can barely get any help.

Hydrocodone CAN be abused like anything else, but due to being mixed with ‘Tylenol’, someone would kill their Liver if they got out of hand in using it.

The DEA should stay out of the doctor/patient relationship. As a matter of fact, the DEA shouldn’t even exist.

If this doesn’t bring out the concern trolls I don’t know what will.

Freeper drug Nazis will insist those with severe chronic pain just suffer through it for however long they waste oxygen.

Liberty loving small government liars they are

Its like gun control.... this only affects legitimate pain prescription users....not dopers

But I regress.....observations

The dummies here don’t know much on the facts except their zealotry

Oxycodone in extended release is Oxycontin......

Oxycodone in regular form is Percocet and generics....5..7.5 and 10 mg

I think they make larger doses now and without Tylenol mixed in....it used to have aspirin ....Percodan...which was better

You cannot chew up or snort Oxycontin anymore to get bigger effect....its gummed up

Hydrocodone is 95-98% as effective as oxycodone.....and comes in similar strengths

And in syrups for cancer folks.....

These are mid level pain meds.....better than codeine as a rule or ultram or darvocet ....(no longer made....more govt meddling)

The heavy hitting pain relief is morphine....dilaudid....fentanyl....ophana...dolophine .....and barely....demerol

Those are for bigtime pain.....although high dosage extended release oxycodone is close behind

I have never understood why street dopes didn’t just buy much cheaper and more effectively heroin which today given the quality can be snorted....smoked or simply eaten

I’ve fractured my neck.....multiple shoulder injuries and dislocations.....herniated cervical and lumbar

Multiple concussions..... leading to empty sella syndrome

Blown out knees.....

Born with bad heart and two open heart surgeries in 11 months back in 2005...yep got my own threads of course

And subsequent medtronics on demand pacemaker for trifascicular block

I don’t want anymore surgeries even though my orthopod thinks I’m due a half dozen

So I take prednisone....zanaflex.....soma if I’m not going out.....and hydrocodone or oxycodone in regular dosage as needed

I don’t like oxycontin....its too much though I did find old school codeine syrup very effective they rarely give that out now....

Some days I thank God for it...I’m pushing 60 and have 9 full and partial dependents and work every day.....and drive a whole lot

I push myself....I’m lucid and feel more energetic and less stove up

I do not drink nor smoke pot though I know folks swea some strains help with pain

If you wish pain relief you have to go to a legit doc who does trigger point anesthesia and Myelograms and cortisine injections and if on steady meds then a fresh script per visit

They urine test for illegal dope and may ask to see pills to count in order to make sure you’re taking them

Since I know my doc and pharmacist socially I just live by their rules quite easily and if you do that it doesn’t give much cause to the drug warriors

Sorry for the rant kids but enjoy being young.and healthy....and don’t listen to the ignorant here preach.....from their seat at the bar usually

Our Nanny State government rarely goes after the root of a problem.

Instead they take the Nanny State approach and restrict or punish the entire population.

PROBLEM: Criminals abuse guns?
BIG GOV SOLUTION: Restrict guns for everyone.

PROBLEM: A few crazy people abuse guns to shoot up schools?
BIG GOV SOLUTION: Punish anyone who mentions the word gun, draws a picture of a gun, points a finger at someone or chews a Pop Tart into the letter “L”.

PROBLEM: Some kids eat too much and get fat.
BIG GOV SOLUTION: Restrict types and quantities of foods served to everyone. Force restaurants to offer “Health Foods” that people don’t buy.

PROBLEM: Some people eat and drink too many sugary foods?
BIG GOV SOLUTION: Control the content and size of foods and drinks containing sugar for everyone.

PROBLEM: Druggies abuse over the counter cold and flu meds?
BIG GOV SOLUTION: Restrict availability for everyone.

PROBLEM: Druggies abuse prescription drugs?
BIG GOV SOLUTION: Restrict availability for everyone making it difficult for legitimate users to obtain their pain meds.

He wants them all on illegal drugs so he can change the complexion of the jail system to be more diverse. More civilians on cheap heroin and dependent, good for business

To no one in particular

Funny how the elites of either party (but especially Demonrats) will never have to worry about getting whatever they want or need. Since some people abuse drugs, the nanny state tyrants are going to punish all people. How is that right or just?

I think the story behind the story is this. Most of America is just fine w/o this regulation. They know how to conduct their affairs w/o behind lead by the nose. Its the welfare types and scammers that go the the pain meds clinics and leach the medicare system to get pain meds for resale. Its a well known FACT medicare is billions in the hole b/c of this and that the pain med clinics could be shut down IF the govt wanted it to be so. Guess thats too much effort....

Not just pain pills, but things like Valium. We are under DOD MANDATE for our meds. Only 2 places to get them Military base or the fraud committing Express Scripts, both very cumbersome processes. Unless it is an emergency antibiotic or a 1 time script from your doctor. Other wise we have to pick up full cost instead of co-pay like we did in the past. Express Scripts just puts nearly $2K worth of meds in our unprotected mail box, un Photo ID Signed for. We have a lot of kids in the neighborhood. It will take an act of congress to change the procedure I was told when I called my congress critter and complained about it.

This is what you get with total government control of your health care. Medicare and Tricare Life (Ret. Military over 65) they restrict test, procedures, nerve blocks are now 3 per year. ALL FOR YOUR OWN GOOD. I LOATH the NANNY Serfdom, that has been forced on us.

When they forced Lore tabs to lower the Tylenol they changed not only the color of the pills, but some of the fillers. I reacted badly to the first tablet of what is now called NORCO. And the 5 mg tab they call white, is not white, off white with red flecks. Still made me nauseous that over rode anti-nausea med. And this pain med is the most prescribed pain pill.

So now along with controlling your use of Sudafed the DEA is going to control the amount of pain killers you can take.

Get the DEA out of our medicine cabinets and out of our lives.

Snip: ““If you’re treating someone with a condition so painful they require treatment with a highly addictive drug, that’s someone who should be monitored closely,” said Andrew Kolodny, chief medical officer for the nonprofit addiction treatment organization Phoenix House, who campaigned for the change for five years.”

And who do you propose should monitor the monitors Mr Kolodny? Who monitors you, Mr Kolodny, to make sure your decisions and campaigning are in accordance with the overlord’s rules?

This is an impossible problem to solve.

Most scam artists are very good at what they do. A ten minute appointment, with eight of the minutes managing the EMR, cannot detect fraud.

Any crackdown will take meds away from people who need them.

They should just legalize and tax them. Just look at the great results for pot.

This crap drives me nuts. Addicts will be addicts. Better to allow doctors to manage their intake IMHO. Too many folks are not given the meds they need—especially when they have cancer and other terminal or chronic illnesses and injuries.

Makes me sick—these non-elected agenda-driven bastards making all our lives miserable. I can’t even buy a decent allergy meds these days without being assumed a criminal. When did Americans surrender their rights to these petty bureaucrats?

It’ll be easier, cheaper, and much more convenient to get heroin on the street corner to manage pain than to get an appointment and a prescription.

That’s exactly what (some) people will do. Who can blame them?

Ok, so this is clearly nanny-statism at work, the government interjecting itself directly into the doctor-patient relationship.

However, from reading the article it seems that the restriction isn't on whether the drugs can be prescribed, but on how long they can be prescribed for before the doctor needs to write a new prescription.

The current restriction limits prescriptions to 180-days duration. This would reduce that to 90 days. From the article:

The “rescheduling” means people will be able to receive the drugs for only up to 90 days without obtaining a new prescription.

So again, more restrictive and definitely an issue from a size/scope/role of government perspective, but the drugs aren't actually being banned.

Meanwhile, the streets are loaded, and I mean loaded, with more drugs than ever. Heroin use and addiction, is epidemic. Kids are taking Molly, MDMA counterfeits coming in from China with severely toxic chemicals which is then cut further by dealers with crystal meth, rat poison, etc.

There is then massive amounts of crystal meth, bath salts, krokodile, crack, cocaine and various other synthetic drugs which go by names I can not recall but these asshats are worried about this?

Not even mentioning the countless numbers of people out there walking around, legally, on SSRIs and other various brain chemical altering drugs.
