Obama (smirking): “Just take a pain pill!”
It's almost as if they've realized they are approaching The Cliff, and rather than stop, they speed up.
My husband injured his back, then we got rear ended in an accident, so he went to the doctor. It was almost impossible to get any pain pills, and after all his suffering, we found out there was a stronger one he could have been taken. His pain reduced him to almost an invalid. Luckily we found out about steroid injections in the back, he had three, and is much better and off the pain pills. Pain pills do not make you euphoric or happy or stoned. They barely ease the pain. He had MRI, etc. He has spinal stenosis and herniated discs. He has been in pain most of this year. I have been doing everything for him, including mowing our lawn. Pain pills should be easier to get, not harder to get.
The article states: Todays action recognizes that these products are some of the most addictive and potentially dangerous prescription medications available, said DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart.
THIS IS BS! I have taken them too, when I hurt my back. They are NOT at all addictive. They barely even ease the pain! We have never found them to be addictive at all. There is no euphoric or stoned feeling to them. And I should know, I was a hippie in the 1960s in college.
They are like aspirin, you take them for the pain, that is all. If they could be stronger they could possibly help more, but they are NOT addictive at all.
hellfire...
I just about have to jump through hoops to get my parents meds as it is....
This will put Vicodin/Hydrocodone in the same classification as Oxycodone(OxyContin) and Morphine, ect. COMPLETELY wrong headed and stupid. The DEA already has providers so scared/intimidated to prescribe these types of medicines, patients that are literally suffering can barely get any help.
Hydrocodone CAN be abused like anything else, but due to being mixed with ‘Tylenol’, someone would kill their Liver if they got out of hand in using it.
The DEA should stay out of the doctor/patient relationship. As a matter of fact, the DEA shouldn’t even exist.
The people who don’t need them can get plenty from their Elvis doctors. But the people who are at low risk for abuse have a hard time getting them.
You are dead wrong. NARCOTIC pain meds are highly addictive.
Take enough of them for long enough and you will be physically addicted.
Psychological dependence is trickier. Some people get hooked after a few, some never get dependent.
I had a terrible time withdrawing from hydrocodone. I hope I never need to take that again. It did a good job on the pain, but it was highly addictive.
Unless it’s in a shot, it doesn’t do much for pain. Nubain, demerall, or morphine.
What about numbing cream? Buy it at the local drugstore and smear it on your back, let it soak in, then the pain goes away.
I can’t tell if you are trolling or if you actually believe that.
I'm in a bind when it comes to pain medication. Steroids are not an option for me (diabetic — they raise my blood sugar to epic heights). Celebrex, Advil and Aleve are bad for my heart. Aspirin upsets my stomach. So when I injured my knee, I was prescribed Vicodin. Did nothing for the pain, but it made me not care — about the pain and everything else. I was in a fog. I ditched the Vicodin and toughed out the pain till I healed, but I realize toughing it out isn't always an option.
Is your husband a candidate for surgery? I know most people fear back surgery, but I understand there are some minimally invasive procedures available now that are less risky and more successful than traditional back surgery.
Prayers for your husband. I hope he can find permanent relief.
If this doesn’t bring out the concern trolls I don’t know what will.
Freeper drug Nazis will insist those with severe chronic pain just suffer through it for however long they waste oxygen.
Liberty loving small government liars they are
Its like gun control.... this only affects legitimate pain prescription users....not dopers
But I regress.....observations
The dummies here don’t know much on the facts except their zealotry
Oxycodone in extended release is Oxycontin......
Oxycodone in regular form is Percocet and generics....5..7.5 and 10 mg
I think they make larger doses now and without Tylenol mixed in....it used to have aspirin ....Percodan...which was better
You cannot chew up or snort Oxycontin anymore to get bigger effect....its gummed up
Hydrocodone is 95-98% as effective as oxycodone.....and comes in similar strengths
And in syrups for cancer folks.....
These are mid level pain meds.....better than codeine as a rule or ultram or darvocet ....(no longer made....more govt meddling)
The heavy hitting pain relief is morphine....dilaudid....fentanyl....ophana...dolophine .....and barely....demerol
Those are for bigtime pain.....although high dosage extended release oxycodone is close behind
I have never understood why street dopes didn’t just buy much cheaper and more effectively heroin which today given the quality can be snorted....smoked or simply eaten
I’ve fractured my neck.....multiple shoulder injuries and dislocations.....herniated cervical and lumbar
Multiple concussions..... leading to empty sella syndrome
Blown out knees.....
Born with bad heart and two open heart surgeries in 11 months back in 2005...yep got my own threads of course
And subsequent medtronics on demand pacemaker for trifascicular block
I don’t want anymore surgeries even though my orthopod thinks I’m due a half dozen
So I take prednisone....zanaflex.....soma if I’m not going out.....and hydrocodone or oxycodone in regular dosage as needed
I don’t like oxycontin....its too much though I did find old school codeine syrup very effective they rarely give that out now....
Some days I thank God for it...I’m pushing 60 and have 9 full and partial dependents and work every day.....and drive a whole lot
I push myself....I’m lucid and feel more energetic and less stove up
I do not drink nor smoke pot though I know folks swea some strains help with pain
If you wish pain relief you have to go to a legit doc who does trigger point anesthesia and Myelograms and cortisine injections and if on steady meds then a fresh script per visit
They urine test for illegal dope and may ask to see pills to count in order to make sure you’re taking them
Since I know my doc and pharmacist socially I just live by their rules quite easily and if you do that it doesn’t give much cause to the drug warriors
Sorry for the rant kids but enjoy being young.and healthy....and don’t listen to the ignorant here preach.....from their seat at the bar usually
Our Nanny State government rarely goes after the root of a problem.
Instead they take the Nanny State approach and restrict or punish the entire population.
PROBLEM: Criminals abuse guns?
BIG GOV SOLUTION: Restrict guns for everyone.
PROBLEM: A few crazy people abuse guns to shoot up schools?
BIG GOV SOLUTION: Punish anyone who mentions the word gun, draws a picture of a gun, points a finger at someone or chews a Pop Tart into the letter “L”.
PROBLEM: Some kids eat too much and get fat.
BIG GOV SOLUTION: Restrict types and quantities of foods served to everyone. Force restaurants to offer “Health Foods” that people don’t buy.
PROBLEM: Some people eat and drink too many sugary foods?
BIG GOV SOLUTION: Control the content and size of foods and drinks containing sugar for everyone.
PROBLEM: Druggies abuse over the counter cold and flu meds?
BIG GOV SOLUTION: Restrict availability for everyone.
PROBLEM: Druggies abuse prescription drugs?
BIG GOV SOLUTION: Restrict availability for everyone making it difficult for legitimate users to obtain their pain meds.
numbing cream doesn’t phase nerve pain in the spine. Been there, lived that.
narcotic pain meds don’t help the nerve pain in the back, either. just relax the person enough to not be as affected by the pain.
I don't see how people can stand to take pain meds long term. I take Hydrocodone when my Sciatic gets pinched and I can't stand but a couple of doses usually. It makes me nauseous. One filled prescription last me several years. But then again I take a med government experts swear will not work after a while, make me crave more, and is a favorite that some like to take with booze thus nearly every doctor is scared to write it. Never had a high, a mellow feeling etc. Say long term Benzo to them and they'll get about the same story as pain killers. FDA is trying to go after them as well but not antidepressants even though Benzo's can not produce a dangerous an adverse reaction known to AD's. For some persons there is no other choice.
I know persons who got addicted to pain killers. Most suffer from Chronic Pain due to a serious injury or serious illness which medical science can not cure. People are surviving traumas today the even twenty years ago usually meant death but now will mean life long pain to some degree. Thus an increase in usage among the population.
Do dangerous meds need to be given very cautiously? Yes most meds should even ones considered safe or safer. Should the federal government be the one too decide who gets what? No.
Another issue that has brought this about the government nor insurers will ever admit too. Not so long ago even minor surgeries meant usually a three day hospital stay. The hospital controlled the medications. Pain was addressed before discharge occurred. Not many persons left the hospitals with meds much stronger than OTC pain meds or first step prescription meds. Pain management before discharge was taken much more serious before the patient could leave. Today most surgeries are done in clinics in and out in four hours or less. As a result strong pain med prescriptions are taken home. The doctors to get prior approval have to say one day surgery in some cases, do it at a hospital outpatient venue, & then justify holding the patient overnight.
Today thanks to the feral government getting cold and allergy meds now puts you on The Watch List and they still aren't satisfied. Now they are pushing for prescriptions for that as well. But yet on the word of a teacher a school system can insist parents take child to a quack to give a kid Ritalin even though he likely doesn't even need it or have ADD ADHD. ADD ADHD if you believe the government is almost epidemic. I think it's something else called C.A.P.D. and Ritalin won't help. Nor will school be given extra funding for C.A.P.D. as they do Ritalin. IOW if the government insists on something it's all fine./sarcasm
I can remember when Formula 44 Moms poured down kids had Codeine in it and the darn stuff actually worked. I don't think any child became a Codeine addict or alcoholic from cough syrup yet by golly booth are no longer active ingredients. Formula 44 more or less replaced the Hot Toddy in homes as a medication.
The FDA is the main reason medications research is not happening and safer meds not developed. The average medication takes a decade to get on the market. FDA was the one believe it or not who told Dr Pepper bottlers they could not use the Motto "Good for Life" on their drink bottles back in the early 1960's.
