FDA Tightens Hydrocodone Regulations To Curb Drug Abuse

Stricter rules for the country's most commonly prescribed painkiller were rolled out on Thursday by the FDA, the last step in a policy change that has been coming down the pipeline for years, The New York Times reported on Sunday.

Hydrocodone will now be in a more serious and restrictive category. Doctors will be barred from calling in prescriptions by telephone, and patients will not be able to get refills on the same prescription, but will have to return to a physician for a new one. It will also have be to kept in special vaults in pharmacies. The Drug Enforcement Administration said it will take 45 days for the new rules to take effect.

That is what we need more of....with more citizen involvement and input and throwing out the bums who won’t represent us we can take our country back....even if it has to be a town and a city at a time.

My little town council was going to raise the local millage rate because they wanted to ‘do more projects’ (i.e. spend more money). The citizens didn’t take kindly to the idea and much fuss was made. The council (particularly since it is an election year) changed their mind

Everyone should be pretty clear by now that I'm sensitive to government encroachments and those that support that.

I'll give it time and look at it again.

I wouldn't make it without aspirin.

My docs (such as they are) are surprised when I flat turn down opiates and say I'll take aspirin.

Yeah, it hurts, you cope, and don't take it out on the ones around you, and if you do... you go away for a while and do the mountain man thing or whatever.

glad you clarified your position. Agreed - it’s a process abuse - never justified to solve a tactical problem.

Fair enough.

I’ve been here long enough to know how you feel about such things, and I have nothing but respect for your opinions and comments on FR.

I’m in the same boat..... managing pain can be tricky at best and this is just stupid. Those who are addicts will still get their pills through the illegal mill and those of us with pain will pay the price.

Just plain crazy

Do you think medical marijuana should be available for people with chronic pain?

“Why do you think the GOP-E hates conservatives? Their phony-baloney jobs are at stake.”

Bravo! And the useful idiots are allowing GOP-e to pi** on our powder.
GOP-e: Let me hold your musket and keep it safe. I’ll give it back if you need it.
U-Idiot: Thank you. Here is tax money for your trouble.

(ok, maybe it’s time for me to turn in :)

I think the federal government has no damn say in it whatsoever.

I also believe that it's a State police power under the 9th and 10th amendments.

I can't speak to whether it is efficacious.

I have injured my back three times over the past ten years or so and I took those drugs and they barely eased the pain, mostly I had to wait till my back healed, for the pain to go away. they are NOT addictive. they do not cause a feeling of euphoria or being stoned. As a hippie from the 1960s I KNOW what stoned is. And pain pills barely ease pain at all.

Your doctor won’t need to carry the script to the pharmacy, just give you a physical, signed copy rather than call into the pharmacy.

It’s all about reducing the level of opiate addiction.

This is all great in the abstract liberal world.

Last year I cracked a tooth on Thursday. By the time I knew I was in trouble Friday and got to my dentist's office, he was closed (at noon) and being a holiday weekend, no appointment until Tuesday.

I reached his cell (out of town) and he phoned a prescription which saved me agony.

Thanks, Fagbama.

I don’t think I’ve seen more self-proclaimed experts in any other administration, and so many screwed up decisions come down the pike none the less.

I’ve tried using every other medication to ease the pain of a tooth ache.

Tylenol, aspirin, Excedrin, Motrin, Tylenol number three. Nothing even remotely eases the pain.

Hydrocodone with acetaminophen stops the pain in minutes. I remain clear headed. I take two or three per day for a couple of days. That’s it.

I tolerate pain pretty well. I don’t get pain relief shots when I have dental work done. I walk in, sit down, they go to work. I leave feeling clear headed, no numbness, and my lip isn’t sagging. I have the same sensation with or without the shots. I just quit getting them.

I’m talking drilling on cavities, root canals, and minor gum surgery.

So when I need Vicodin, I need Vicodin. Now it will be next to impossible to get. You’ll need a Class Two Script to get it.

This F’n administration has got a god complex to end all god complexes.

What always gets me about this type of thing is that thousands of people will now be required to visit the “germ soup” of a clinic for paperwork purposes...when they are not sick. Otherwise healthy people will now unnecessarily be exposed to the flu, colds, stomach viruses, and who KNOWS what else...yuck!

Good point. It’s something the geniuses at the FDA won’t be able to grasp. And who knows what will be present in that clinic in upcoming years. Seriously!

Perfect example of a government agency too big in both people and money.

Create a problem and then come up with a solution that costs everybody in time and money with little to no regard for the patients and sufferers and requires more people and more effort to manage

We need to make sure that their budget takes a huge hit so they can only concentrate on the things that matter and stop interfering with the patient/doctor relationship

DON'T GET BETWEEN ME AND MY DOCTOR!

Oxy generates big bucks on the streets. Have you seen those documentaries about Oxy abuse in places like rural Kentucky? I guess Vicodin will now generate the same cash. Supply and demand. When the pills are harder to get, the price goes up!
