Gazprombank GPB (OJSC), a Russian bank targeted with sanctions by President Obama over the Ukraine crisis, has hired two former U.S. senators to lobby against those sanctions, according to a new disclosure filed with the Senate.
Gazprombank is controlled by Russias state-owned energy company Gazprom, the countrys largest gas producer; it supplies about a third of Europes natural gas.
In a filing submitted Friday and effective that day, former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, R-Miss., and former Senator John Breaux, D-La., are listed as the main lobbyists under the Gazprombank account for the firm Squire Patton Boggs, lobbying on banking laws and regulations including applicable sanctions.
Gazprombank GPB (OJSC) is a subsidiary of Gazprombank, Russias third largest bank. On July 16th, the U.S. Treasury Department added it to a list of Russian firms barred from debt financing with U.S. institutions.
Lott and Breaux left public service almost a decade ago and are among more than 300 members of Congress whove become lobbyists, and begun petitioning former colleagues on behalf of clients, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. In 2008, they started a lobbying firm with their sons, Breaux Lott Leadership Group, which was acquired by D.C.-lobbying powerhouse Patton Boggs in 2010. Patton Boggs merged with Squire Sanders to form Squire Patton Boggs in June.

Just seems to me like we should outlaw paid lobyists. A citizen with a gripe should be able to get a place in line outside a congressional door as quick as a corporation/union/country/or any other group of whiners. Ex congress critters should have ZERO special access to their old digs——except maybe the gym.
Thanks, I voted for Nixon which is probably why I had that lapse, however I believe Reagan was the reason we got infiltrated so easily, not his fault, but the demons used his popularity, to their benefit.
Lies are often much easier to believe than the truth.
Why am I not surprised?
McCain agitating for the Ukranians and head-lopping Islamic radicals. Lott shilling for the Russians.
Such dedicated public and former-public servants looking out for the interest of...THEMSELVES!
Oh, the virtues and merits of Party R. Laughable if Party D wasn’t even worse.
Jeez. It never ends, does it?
Well, these creatures have spent years in the Congress acting against the best interests of the American people and now they are spending their remaining years outside of Congress acting against the best interests of America and American citizens.
Prime examples of corruption and influence being sold to the highest bidders.
And don’t forget their pensions on top of what they’re “earning” today. This proves there’s no difference in the two parties. They’re all there to cash in.
