A man killed by police officers in Texas on Saturday was armed only with a pellet gun and was shot more than 80 times, leaving him with 'no face', family members said.

The Laredo Police Department said it placed six officers who allegedly opened fire on Jose Walter Garza on administrative duties pending an internal investigation, media reported.

The incident, much of which was recorded on a surveillance camera, took place outside a truck stop on Saturday at around 2 am.

Suicide by cop? It’s possible. It’s also possible to be killed with a pellet gun.

That being said, cops aren’t perfect, and it does seem as though they are more prone to mistakes these days, although that may be less an increase than simply more evidence, due to better tools of documentation.

80 rounds is certainly "more evidence"...

In this case, yes, but I was referring to what seems to be a rapidly increasing incidence of misconduct by law enforcement, which may be, or at least may partly be, more evident of the convenient and growing use of cell phone cameras.

When is the last time you were drunked up, passed out, in a truck stop parking lot?

Gee, I see your point. Ol' Jose has certainly learned some "personal responsibility". Well, he did for at least a few fleeting seconds.

Has anyone rewritten the headline yet?

“Cops in Face Off With Local Man.”

Apologies in advance.

“Cops in Face Off With Local Man.”

I'm sure the irony would blow Jose away, if he hadn't have been already...

I hope the cops are not surprised when the citizens turn against them. They knew the guy was passed out so why not take the BB gun away from him before he woke up? Or is it more exciting to shoot him since they have the authority to do so?

IMO nearly every time the police use deadly force its a failure and it should not be celebrated. Its a failure of the system to identify dangerous people and get them off the street or its a failure of hyper aggressive law enforcement.

Summary executions in the street are not the American way.

“Let me see it. OK, put it away. You can’t have that out.

...

In Trevino’s hearsay, he didn’t say “OK.” It sounded like “saw it.” As yet, there is no evidence the guard handled the gun as you claim.

You have to inform ALL the coon dogs with semi-autos, or it doesn’t count? Interesting...

...

Coon dogs? You aren’t biased are you?

If 20 officers are dispatched (and apparently you don’t know what dispatch told them), and the guard tells one officer that the gun MAY be a BB gun, that’s not going to get the job done. Furthermore, the suspect may have said or done something to lead them to believe it was a real gun. I don’t know and neither do you. But the lack of facts isn’t going to stop you from stirring up emotion against the police, is it?

In any age of this great nation threatening an officer of the law can be deadly. Especially with a gun, BB or not.
If somebody raging is pointing a gun at me I'm not asking if it's a bb or .22 rifle.

Don’t bother. Moonman is clearly LE himself, from previous posts. He has the same permissive attitude all cops have toward their own. He won’t see anything wrong in any of this. He probably thinks the fist bumps are okay.

He caught that spear, too. We apparently don't know what the fist bumps were all about.

The officer's team, the Brokeback Cowboys, might have won Monday Night Football, and they were celebrating their team's victory.

See the video at post #61. Apparently, a "gate guard" at the truck stop had interacted with the "desperado", and had ascertained that it was a BB gun. And he told the police about it when they showed up.

BUT - since he didn't tell all 20 carloads of cops personally, it was lights out for the sleepy, headphone-wearing wino.

Fortunately, the peasants inside the truck stop managed to hit the deck when the unannounced fusillade began.

Given the fist bumping, I think excitement was exactly what they were looking for. People fist bump as a celebration, like a high five. That fist bump flat says this was a wonderful event to them. And when people like something, they go looking for it. So if cops like having a fresh kill at their feet, it is only reasonable to expect they are looking for the opportunity.

Ya, because clearly my first concern after ending a man’s life will be my sports team. No, that fist bump was about what happened. Any other excuse is exactly that, an excuse. If I killed a man, I doubt I’ll be thinking about anything else for quite a while.
As I said before, there was a time when cops were known to be violently ill after killing someone. I guess they got over that. Seriously, what kind of psychos are they hiring these days?
