Does a Tesla have enough juice to drive from Palo Alto to Reno on one charge?

My guess is a stop in Sacramento for a tax break will help keep the juice flowing....

I just checked the mileage and it looks like right at 250 miles.

If everything was just right they might make it but I believe it’d be close.

In winter I wouldn’t even think about it and going over the Sierras would be problematic even in good weather.

Probably not. As soon as you leave Sacto its up hill almost all the way. If it's cold you need heater, if it's hot you need A/C. If it rains you need wipers and if you don't travel in daytime you need lights. Chances are you like the radio and will want to use the navigation system. All of these things eat the charge.

Charging stations will be built in random locations, (another reason for the GPS) so you'd want to stop often so as not to be stranded in the mountains.

and then three's THIS regarding the lagging sales of E-cars which will result in less charging stations being built.

Side note: I have neighbors who bought a Nissan Leaf. They were excited that their travels within 100 miles would all be free. Their monthly energy bill is noticeably and it's summer with longer days and less consumption. They were also a bit dismayed to learn that all those stores putting in charging stations to lure customers CHARGE FOR THE SERVICE! (surprise, surprise)
