I worked in Australia for two months a couple of years ago.
Merchants openly tack the credit card fee on to the purchase price, consequently very few people use cards for routine purchases. Elizabeth may be queen, but cash is king. I only used credit cards for hotels and rental cars.

Here they charge the retailer the fee so they raise their prices on everyone to pay the transaction costs.
